Just got mine. Not impressed. 
putter itself is nice shaped but head cover is so cheap, it almost feels like they bought it off Temu.

Thank you, looks like closer if not the same as a 5.5 if I remember right, definitely not as much as a Newport 2.

I expected the headcover and possibly the grip to feel/be cheap. Was there something you didn't like about the putter?

Do the headcover and grip feel different than their normal stuff? Seems to be barely less hang than a 5.5, thanks for the comparison.

Grip is cheap. Swing weight seems light, grip not on straight.

 

I like the shape of the head so I'm looking around my shaft box for a black shaft and I will need to regrip to my liking.

I feel they did something to the matador. It seems light and hollow. I used to game the original matador and I remember feeling solid in the hand with plenty of feel.

 

HC seems cheaper then my 9.5. It feels lighter and material seems like same cover from 90's Cameron.

I like the headcover and thought it felt more premium than the stiff cover that comes on the normal putter. It's not a Ping PLD cover by any means but it isn't that bad. If you had a club Cameron membership in recent years, it feels the same as the 2020 or 2021 material. It's pretty soft so probably not going to be the most durable in the long run.

The grip is decent but agreed feels very light. Already planned to replace with a black KBS and SS but the HC will be shelved anyways since I have one I love from TBC. I liked the head shape and neck a lot. Feels great but agreed they cheaped out on the accessories on it.

You are absolutely right. I compared to club cameron, it seems like same material. Not going to game the cover.

IMO they don’t do enough to justify the price, these could easily have just been next years phantom models as it’s only the milling on the current select putter across the face in black with a different grip. As much as I love them I’ll hang fire to see if that milling becomes standard at the next refresh as my coach is struggling to sell them and still carries last years B3 and champions choice as they weren’t popular.

Big Scotty fan too. For over a couple decades. Almost always playing blade putters (Scottys, and for many years before that, before that, Ping Ansers). Tried a Scotty mallet years ago (the Red X), but I never did feel in sync with it. A little while ago I went to a Scotty Squareback - plays sort of halfway between a blade and a mallet IMO), and saw numbers improve. Then last year I was in Dick's waiting for a friend and playing around on their putting mat. Randomly tried a Phantom 5.5, and immediately fell in love. Played it all last year (due to an injury I have not yet been able to play in 2025). Best putter I've ever owned. (You know how every now and then you pick up a club, and get that inexplicable "just right for me" feeling? This was that.)

 

So I also agree with your second point ... I'm looking at the new 5.5, and while the cosmetics are cool, I'm not really seeing or hearing anything that would make me pay that much for the new one.

Pull the shaft and realigned it. 
I must admit that I am impressed with the feel of this putter. 
As fan of old Scotty and current Betti, I always wanted the AOP feel in the mallet with 350+ head. Betti has the softness but I struggle with being short on putts. I like the 9.5 for distance and was great help to my yips but the it has the click.

This milling is pretty darn close on mat. 
I was pretty disappointed with the other stuff but I love the shape and probably resthaft put a full contact grip.

I got mine yesterday. For some reason, the black color is kinda off, it’s not super black color, more like part of it is torched torch

Just got the email from my pro shop that my 9.2 is in. I will pick it up this evening and compare toe hang pics to my 5.5 this evening.

9.2R definitely has more toe hang than the 5.2. I would say the 5.5 has a hair more toe hang than the 9.2 but not by much.

Those are my two favorites as well and ended up going for the 5.5 for the slant neck. Which do you prefer since you have both in hand?

I like the looks of the 9.2R but the slant neck of the 5.5 sets up better to my eye. A 9.5R would be perfect.

Got my 5.5 this week but just got it out…I’m loving it. The milling feels so soft.

Had the 9.2 at the course today. Will be changing the shaft and grip but the putter was excellence. I love it more than my prior Spider gamer. Just need to extend to a 36” and it’ll be perfection

I pulled the Matador and installed a dancing cord on the 9.2. For anyone that is interested, the weight of the Matador is 90g.

Won a 34 inch 5.5 left handed from Golf Galaxy yesterday in their raffle as you couldn’t add on Titleist’s website (sold out) and today GG cancelled it. Seems like no one has a 34 inch left handed anywhere even though it is claimed to be the only one that came in that dexterity.

Installed a KBS CT Tour matte black and SuperStroke GT 1.0 this afternoon and wow the weight and feel is perfect. 36” playing so a few added grams but this is a night and day difference in feel. Excited to bring it to the course to test more but the stock build felt too light for me

Did you weigh the head before putting in the new shaft? If so what was it and what sole weights did it have?

I didn’t weigh it but should have. It was the stock 10g from the 35” but the putter has better balance of weigh IMO with the new shaft. I’ve replaced the last 3 Scotty’s I’ve owned immediately to get the right overall feel

Now that I have seen how much better a 9.2R looks compared to the standard 9 head, I kind of hope they give the same treatment to the 5 head.
