NoLayingUp and The Fried Egg are the my favorite youtube golf channels. They don't bombard me with content and it's objectively good stuff highlighting cool golf courses and not just generic influencer stuff.  These personalities know the rules, it's pretty cut at this point and complaining about it won't do anything.

but its so easy to complain on the internet everybody does it just ask brandel

It seems a bit arrogant too.

I really don't get the appeal of the YT stuff. GH and the Bryant Bros. playing Portrush is a video over 90mins long, they don't have anything to offer to keep me engaged for that length of time - boring.

unlike a 6 hr pga tour competition on yt you can easily skip all the missed putts that make watching golf boring

If he went out and embarrassed himself it might do more harm to his brand than whatever gain he'd get from a routine MC.

Bingo.

He's too scared to play and doesn't have the stones to admit it.

Oh well, probably best that the exemption goes to a real golfer trying to make it rather than some immature YouTube clown.

Who’s not playing the what?

🤣 🍻

Not too smart on his part. Obviously the tour isn’t letting him bring in a crew to film him. He should just take the free publicity from getting the invite and use whatever media he’s permitted.

with 1mill+ subs and an average of 1m+ views per vid he really needs the publicity ;}

missing a cut never hurt the bryan bros or miccah morris and alot of youtube golf isnt exactly winning tournaments of any level.

To be fair there was a thread here making fun of Micah for shooting an 80 something in a tournament, but I don't think that represents the larger golf population

its pgat way or the highway

wanting to capitalize on Grants popularity in a nothing event that needs all the pub it can get, without throwing him a little something....

He very graciously declined, it was the correct thing to do.

Let some aspiring tour player play instead

Cmon, he may be making 20k a month from those views. Fantastic but not like he can’t benefit from being on tv 📺 in a pga tour event.

He's making way more than $20,000 a month lol he has sponsorships, does ads and is involved in owning his own clothing line. You can think it's dumb, but playing in this event helps the tour way more than it helps him financially. Knowing the tour he'd play and they wouldn't even show any of his shots because they're so out to lunch. Literally grant doing a video at that course and posting to youtube would generate more views than probably the whole viewership of the tournament for the week on TV. I barely watch youtube golf anymore but it's just reality that if they let him play a tournament and everyone wants to see him play, and they won't show him hardly at all on TV, why not find a way to mutually benefit if it's possible.

That’s great but the pga tour is not giving him an exemption to bring in his film crew.

No sports league does.

OK so that's fine...he asked for it so he could also benefit and they said no. The point is some on here acting like he needs them and was a huge a hole about it when he was pretty polite about the whole situation and is making a ton of money kind of doing what pga players do, which is traveling around and playing golf as a career.

you must be joking the only 'yt' people benefitting from publicity on tv have big knockers and you think someone seeing a 30 second clip of Grant horvat putting on a friday well out of contention are going to be wow that guys interesting let me check out takoma wedges ;}

Looks like the tour has worked with him. I still think he would benefit from playing.

The PGA Tour has supported YouTube golf and social media influencers in the game with several tournaments streamed online and played at tournament site of PGA Tour events, including an event Horvat won this year at TPC Sawgrass ahead of The Players Championship in March.

Since that event, part of the Creator Classic series, wasn't an official PGA Tour event, the creators were allowed to and encouraged to film individual content around their participation in the event. However, playing in an official PGA Tour event is something different altogether.

Complaining about it will absolutely do something. As the YT space grows the Tour is going to want in on that market share. We've already seen them lift previous restrictions when it comes to content creation and they even have a "Content Creator Council" now.

The tour has a multi-billion dollar media rights deal. Why would they want someone filming what is essentially an alternate broadcast

Admission that he cares about his business and livelihood more than golf itself? I think he falls in line with 99% of the population there.

Let's break this down regarding that claim.

How would having to make a few episodes from pre and post-round discussion spliced with clips that no doubt the Tour would have let him use from their own reels or that he could extract himself under creative commons and the like have hurt his business and livelihood? He'd still have footage of him during play, and given that the Tour already does mic'd up segments and tries to get conversations between players and caddies I'm willing to bet they'd be happy to accommodate him being mic'd up the entire time. He might not have been able to have his normal "to the audience" conversations, but he could have gotten plenty to work with to share with them regardless. He claims being out on the Tour is his ultimate dream, yet because he can't have it happen exactly in the way he wishes he'd rather have no part of it. I fail to see how it's beneficial to his brand/business to turn down an opportunity many players strive for and never get when the whole draw is him being entertaining while working to be the best at golf he can be.

It's certainly not beneficial to his livelihood to turn down a potential pathway to the Tour, where he could get even more sponsor dollars than he has now. What he gets for the logos and brands now pales in comparison to what he could get representing those companies and more on mainstream TV in front of what is still one of the most sought after demos in entertainment. Being more directly involved with the Tour would also mean he'd likely get even more access to the other players, meaning more feature videos playing with them than his brand deals alone have brought, and pretty sure that would help boost his numbers even more.

He's afraid of the spotlight and using not being able to have his cameras there as an excuse or he's so arrogant he doesn't care about how having them there would affect his fellow players, or both, but none of this has a basis in any evaluation of how it would affect his business prospects.

These leagues are controlling the distribution of actual “game film”. And then letting them film their own experiences attending.

They aren’t letting an influencer run around the sidelines with a crew following Mahomie around with carte blanche to then distribute game film on their YouTube channels.
