The tours aren't getting that much out of it. That's been my argument the whole time.

Those players are either getting paid or will be looking to do so if GH is really making money hand over fist. Last I check, pro golfers car about getting paid for their services.

Full Swing was good. Didn't feel corporate at all.

TV shows that don't have a corporate feel get produced all the time.

Why trust someone else if you can control the content yourself?

Thats a different platform and format

Youtube now has over 10% of viewing market share. The tour only benefits by having their players on the most followed golf content channels.

It’s free promotion for them.

you have a problem with that just because GH is making money. He’s the one doing all the creative and producing after all.

I've never watched anything GH has made and I don't have a problem with creators getting paid. My argument is the PGAT is making its members famous and GH's best performing videos are the one's starring those members. (the Scottie Scheffler video is his most viewed video ever). His videos without celebrities do not perform well. He is reliant on tour golfers and celebrities and they will be looking to get paid if GH is raking it in with content they appear in. The PGAT isn't likely to let this continue for much longer.

Nor should they let this continue.   IMO

I haven’t watched any of his videos either 🤣 I have no interest in what players do besides how they perform on the field

But all sports leagues are partnering with the top social creators to get their players exposure via a platform/channel that appeals to certain ages.

The viewers like these creators because of the unique way and creative way the content is produced.

Viewers can tune into a pga event or nfl game. But a lot of fans want to see the players in a different way.

It’s smart to allow players to participate in these videos. It 100% free promotion to audiences that seek this stuff out.

I said it earlier, I think the tours will either onboard some of these influencers or invest in their channels in partnership. I think it could workout for all involved. I think most of the golf influencers will be left behind and struggle.

the Saquon Barkley video was pretty good.

Seeing Saquon in a way you'd never see him and how stoked he is on golf

We all have something in common, none of us has watched Grant Horvat's content, and we're all avid golf fans. How valuable can it be? If you want to invest in stock, invest in something that you use every day.

I'm just saying that if it's truly the future, then create your own content instead of using a random content creator. The name content creators tells you what to do.

Since this topic has already been beaten to death I’m going to go off at a tangent.

Something seems suspicious about GH’s video views. Some of his videos have way more views than he has subscribers while most of Rick Schiel’s videos have way less views than he has subscribers. What’s going on there? Are other channels promoting GH videos? Is he just way better at marketing his videos? Something is off but I don’t want to accuse someone of something I don’t fully understand yet.

Let's be factual, the PGAT didn't extend Grant Horvat an invitation to play in the Barracuda Championship, it was a sponsor invite.

He declined because the PGAT doesn't allow the filming of its content. The media rights were exclusively sold to CBS, NBC, ESPN, and Golf Channel.

Well that’s not quite true. The tour has final approval over sponsors exemptions.

This was an issue with him and the tour, not him and the Barracuda. They would have LOVED to have him there.

Most that view his videos don't subscribe

while Shiels kinda sucks but has several years of subscriber build up but nobody watches anymore

Yes he gets promoted from bryan bros although they're a smaller channel. I know he used to be in Good Good which is the biggest youtube golf channel so maybe that is part of it.

The RS part makes sense, but having 2x your subscriber count watch your videos seems really odd. Is that common?

He used to mention in his videos that most who watch don't subscribe and would ask those watching to subscribe...🤷‍♂️

It is very common for the YT guys to mention that only 50% of viewers are subscribers.  Peter Finch mentions it a lot and they discuss it some in his podcast.

The Tour provides guidance and can obviously exclude someone if they want, but it doesn’t control who gets the invite, the tournament director does.  There is no formal, final approval of the sponsor’s exemptions by the Tour.

And this wasn’t the Tour saying he couldn’t play.  They said that he couldn’t film it.  He can still play.  He is just choosing not to do so.

Love it Grant.... you bigger then the PGA.  Telling them no makes them want you even more.... smart man.  You immediately made yourself bigger marketing wise cause who in their right mind turns down playin in a PGA event. In a world of desperate kiss azzes you rose above that and you'll do it on your own terms.

I heard they’re considering inviting him to play in The Open now and letting him film it. That man is playing 13d chess. Art of the Deal!

This is such a false statement, it's mind boggling.

Top viewed video on his channel, has over 5 million views, no PGA tour players. These creators have been pulling in 1-3 million views on videos long before any pros were involved. And do you know why the pros end up on the channel? Because Taylor Made/Callaway/Titleist see the value in the creators and THEY want the exposure. Grant Horvat didnt need Scottie to get a 3+ mill viewership, and surely Scottie didnt need to do it, but TM sponsors them both and THEY wanted the exposure

Youtube golf is outperforming PGA tour for views weekly and its not even close. The beauty of it, unlike LIV, is that they coexist and arent in competition with one another. Rising tides raise all ships. Youtube isnt taking away viewers from the PGA tour but they are introducing a ton of eyes to the game and in effect assist the growth of the popularity of the PGA tour

Well, that's a bit of a marketing ploy by them. Youtube tracks views with an algorithm that ensures its a legit view and not a bot. Where the views vs subscriber count can be misleading is that viewer may watch a video over several views thus creating multiple views by a single subscriber

But it does give the creator the opportunity to ask in what appears a fair ask

100%. All request goes through the tournament Directors ( usually letters). The Tour provides guidelines.

LOL.  So you’re adding up all the ‘views’ (most of which are young people clicking on it and watching for 30 seconds and then moving on when their attention deficit disorder kicks in) from all the golf personalities on YouTube and comparing them against PGATour ratings?  As if that means something?

Here’s all that matters.  The value of the broadcast rights for a PGA Tournament averages right about $20 million.  Please tell me what YouTuber is pulling $20 million per week from YouTube for their video rights.

And remember, we’re talking about broadcast media rights.  One million views on YT gets paid between $1,000 and $10,000.  Whereas one million ‘viewers’ (remember this is the average number of people viewing at all times) at a PGA Tour event is worth about $2.9 million to the Tour.  And if I remember my third grade math correctly,  $2.9 million > $10,000.
