If the PGAT sells their Media Rights to the NETWORKS for $9 Billion, why would they give them away to a lowly YouTube influencer?

I don't follow this guy or any "content creator" for that matter.  They create nothing.  He is not a proven, viable or credible golf resource.  

 

And just so I can get my arms around it, please provide a comparison of this guy to someone that actually works in entertainment.

the guy is literally doing something positive and growing the game for the future. its fine if you dont want to consume the content but bitter jealousy isnt a good look.

Sure it's important, to people that want to watch 30 minutes of "golf".  That isn't the tournament golf the PGA Tour is selling.  Do we really think that the crowd that watches YouTube golf, because that's the limit of their attention span, are going to start watching 4 hours of tournament golf every Saturday and Sunday? 

 

YouTube golf is the analogue of going to Top Golf to play a round of golf.

its linear.  non golfers and young kids are drawn to it.  they pick up the game.  they then start watching competitive golf and spend in the golf space.

I have zero issue with him or any of the other content creators doing what they do and making a decent living doing it.  He’s obviously a talented entertainer in his niche and has a strong following.  YouTube is an awesome platform with a lot of great content on it.

 

The issue at hand in this thread has nothing to do with whether he’s great at what he does, whether he makes enough to buy a 1,500 square foot 3/2 ranch in Reseda for $2.4 million, or whether YT is a good medium.  The issue is that he accepted a sponsor’s exemption with incredibly misinformed expectations and then he and his cheerleaders tried to paint him the victim as if he’d been wronged and as if the PGA Tour were a bunch of fools for not letting him dictate the terms of his participation.  That contention is just ridiculously ignorant of how the world works.

This is accurate.

 

Id argue he knows he had no chance of filming since they don’t let any of their 1xx pga tour members do it.  
 

The whole drama from him is a bit to so he can generate content out of it.  It’s an act, to create more clicks and views.

it’s not a qualifier for a pga tour event, and it doesn’t give them access to film as a participant (cause they won’t be) in a pga tour event…..

Got it - this was thread on Grant and playing in a pga tour event.  

They’ve had creator events and grants played and filmed in those so not ground breaking.

From what I see, GH is not really an “influencer”. Influencers tend to be high profile and loud and try to be sensational and push the envelope. 
 

GH seems to just produce high quality golf videos with great “casts” and narration that appeal to a very wide demographic of golfers.

I’m not against the creator classic or stuff like that.   Seem like the logical place for it vs a pga tour event.
