Grant Horvat not playing in the Barracuda

When you disagree with some and they don’t like you opinion, but don’t have any logical arguement to dispute it they tend to make ad hominem attacks like call you jealous.

Wouldn't it be logical that a guy that posts golf videos "to influence" more people in golf would "welcome an opportunity" to play in a televised professional event?

The Barracuda is opposite the Open, so most if no one will really watching it on tv versus in person

I would even argue unless he was in the top 20 on a weekend ... most of his base isn't seeing him play on tv, so he isn't gaining anything from playing in the event

This is a business for him not just pride/ego

Yeah.  But let’s be honest he’s getting more clicks views/relevancy by the faux I’m declining and standing on principle….therefore more revenue

It's all about pride and ego.  That's why he didn't play.  If his base sees him miss a cut and chop it up the first two days, he gets blasted with negative feedback. Clearly, the delicate influencer can't take being center stage.

It's like having "the accused" testify in court.  Too risky.

Principles?

C'mon dude.

Versus # of clicks if he finished top 10.  He weighed the options and took the easy way out.

He knew he wouldn’t make the top 10.

He knew there was more value in declining it and making the principles video… gets people talking about and more clicks.

he plays in a pga tourney.  Shoots back to back 75s and then it’s down.  We’ve answered the question and the novelty is over

Then why did he accept the invite in the first place?

Was he just too naive about how media rights ownership work?

Because my guess is he knew exact what was going to happen. You shoot 76 76 and miss the cut at an opposite field event - no one outside of your small followers circle taks about it. You accept an invite to play in a PGA event - and then turn it down - now your name is in national press. More news articles. More clicks.

He's always struck me as someone who is very very on top of things business wise, my guess is he knew exactly what he was doing.

You get it.  This is absolutely his play the game hole time.

He might be a nice guy IRL, but he’s a savy business person and 100% playing a character.

So, he's not a real golfer, more a novelty item, like a commemorative coin?

Count me out of the loop on the YouTube Golf thing. The PGAT is so desperate they have a “content creator” exemption? Hey, bring in the YT whiffle ball guys (that a thing too..?), place them on the SF Giants to face Ohtani in a real honest to god regular season game at Dodger Stadium. We need to enhance MLB for…. Who exactly? Oh yeah, themselves

Playing in any PGA Tour event adds credibility to anyone. Seems like a huge lost opportunity to me no matter how you look at it.

He could’ve documented it and done all kinds of videos from his hotel room, talking about the tournament and how he felt, where his mental space was and what the experience was like. I actually would’ve liked to have heard about that.

Absolutely crazy to me that an “influencer“ would not recognize this as an opportunity to enhance his brand.

Just my opinion…

I thought the same thing.  Let’s bring bat bros into the home run derby.

We are giving this guy way too much time and effort. A few final thoughts.

What I can't appreciate is that some people  treat him as the Jacques Cousteau of golf.  Let's face the facts - he discovered nothing, he brings nothing new, he offers nothing but time on a video.  That is Value?

I guess he could be considered the modern day Pied Piper for high cappers, slicers, pullers, multi-towel carriers, fancy ball mark collectors, visor wearing get food on the turn golfers who want to play better but can't find the time for real instruction.

Nobody in here is doing any of that.  He's just a YT golf guy that some people enjoy watching.  I'm watching his match with Colin right now, while I eat lunch.  It's just entertainment.  I don't think he's god gift, I don't think anything in particular other than he produces some good quality content I can digest when I want to, usually in 30-60 minute intervals.  His arrangement with Taylormade gets him some good content.

You are the one that has been obsessed over him.  How many posts have you racked up in a thread about a guy you've claimed to have never watched about a dozen times now?  You've gone above and beyond with your rants and name calling over a content creator.

We get it, you don't like Grant.  Despite never actually watching any of his videos.

FWIW, the reason Grant got an invite was because he won the Creator Classic, which was a PGAT sanctioned event/thing for creator type peeps that aired on the PGAT YT channel.  It wasn't just some random "we invite this guy because he is popular" type thing.

The year before Luke Kwon won, and managed to turn it into a few invites.  He played on the Asian Tour and International tour where he made a cut.  The International series let him be mic'd up and film during the Macau tournament.

The Q at Myrtle Beach also has done something similar.  Hosted their own event with creators and guys from the KFT.  The winner gets an exemption into the Myrtle Beach Classic.  Matt Atkins won in 2024, and Nathan Franks won 2025.  Both got invites to play in the PGA Tour event held there.

LOL! .... We now live in a world where the fickle golf fan finds a fake, scripted, YouTube content creator more exciting than the #1 real golfer in the world.

It's called the Twilight Zone. 🤣

You are putting as much effort into this thread as anyone, yet you claim you have never seen the videos. It shows with your posts too.

I dont recall him accepting the invite.

Okay Mr Technicality, let me rephrase.  Why did he publicly disclose he received the invite and was considering it, only to then decline it?  Why didn’t he decline it out of hand before it ever got to the point of requesting approval to film?

Here’s how it should have gone down:

”Hey Grant, it’s the tournament director of the Barracuda.  We’d like to offer you a sponsor’s exemption to play in the event.”

Grant: “Thanks, but I know I can’t compete with those guys and I’ll probably come in DFL, which isn’t good for my brand.  And I know that the Tour won’t allow me to film the event, as they already sold those rights to the networks.  So, thank you for the offer, but I’ll have to politely decline.”

Then he can go on a podcast and say, hey they offered me an invite, but I declined because I’m not good enough to play in a PGA Tour event and they’d never let me film it.  So, all good.

But rather than doing that, he made it seem like he was willing to play in the event, but the big bad PGA Tour killed his dreams and robbed all his poor fans of seeing him play in a pro event.  That’s called playing the victim.

If he is just a YT golf guy, then why not play in the tournament?  What's the big deal?  He played in the creator tournament.

I don’t like phony people.

A real-deal golfer would have played.

I am dedicated to bringing solid "devil's advocate" content to threads.  If Grant was truly dedicated to helping golfers with his content, he would have demonstrated said content by playing.

It's exciting to see the Dunning-Kruger effect being played out Grant.
