Arccos Smart Laser

I love Arccos and have used it for years. I love the idea of this integration with all my existing Arccos data and distances. No chance I'm paying a $200/yr (on top of the annual fee) RANGEFINDER SUBSCRIPTION?!?!

Yeah, it seems ridiculous. I just emailed their customer support to confirm that the total subscription cost with the laser would be $350+ every year.

 

Its a shame, because this seems to add a lot of convenience to using Arccos.

I figured I would not be the only one who was shocked by this. Was so excited to see how it would integrate and definitely turned off by the add on to the normal subscription. Hopefully that does change. I would even pay a bit more for the range finder.

Yeah, the additional subscription seems high.  I pre-ordered one and will at least give it a go for a season and then make a decision on re-upping or not.  Surely they’ll wind up bundling this?
 

I think the current  differentiation in the product vs competitors is enough to justify the premium they charge for the subscription.   I’ll need to be convinced that it’s that much better to be worth the extra range finder subscription.  

 

On the other hand, it’s a relatively small number in the context of my overall golf expenditure. If it’s a good product I’ll probably pay up for it.

I emailed them as well but got a canned answer. 
 

I want to know if the rangefinder functions as a normal rangefinder if the subscription is not active. Obviously, without some of the functions that are required to be input from the app.

 

My cheap Amazon one is giving me fits, and if this one acts as a normal rangefinder without the  subscription, I may give it a try.

 

Hopefully, like others have said by the time the one year sub subscription is up they will have come up with a bundled subscription package

The subscription model is taking over so many industries. It is pretty frustrating. I get it from a company standpoint, getting revenue each month vs once, but I think a range finder sub is too much.

Response from Arccos about the subscription. Sounds like it will work as a normal rangefinder without the subscription.

 

I don't see $200 a year in value just for providing the same "plays-like" yardages you see in the app and automatically setting the pin location.

It will definitely work without the subscription. It even advertises an external tournament mode toggle switch to turn off the adjusted yardages for competitive use.

Arccos Charging a subscription for a rangefinder is an absurd concept. I would probably buy another rangefinder with the pin marking feature. But I’m guessing that most users of Arccos already use rangefinders that work perfectly fine as I do. I have all the “added” info already on my watch already, and they propose i pay them 200/year to set the pin which I can do already with my watch? The value is a joke. I also emailed them telling them that and also told them that I will be telling anyone who asks about my arccos about their money grab. Hopefully if they receive enough pushback, or low preorder numbers, they will reconsider their pricing model for the rangefinder.

Wow. I stopped using Arccos a while back due to a poor web interface and general lack of usefulness. I even have a free legacy subscription! This rangefinder is a nice idea but the subscription is an absolute insult.

 

They will never get any more of my money, but I guess I had already figured that one out 🤪

How much does it cost, and what’s included?

The Arccos Smart Laser is $249.99, which includes your device and first year of the Smart Laser subscription. After that, the subscription renews at $199.99/year. Users will need to have both an active Game Tracking and Smart Laser subscription to use the Smart Laser.

 

I started using the Garmin Z30 recently and it pairs great with the watch, shows the pin on the watch and shows the front/back buffers inside the rangefinder. Believe it also works with their club trackers - which I dont use. Its a really nice setup but I would not pay $200/yr for it.

 

The only way I'd even consider paying a fee like that is if they included free upgrades every time a new rangefinder came out. Otherwise 3 years from now the technology is going to be obsolete and you'd be out the $249 cost plus $400 in fees?
