Different grip "sizes" within the set

Long story short... I had every grip feeling the same diameter wise. Using standard grips with a couple wraps so everything felt shy of but on the verge of midsize. Ended up reshafting my irons to graphite and the butt diameter is smaller so the iron shafts and wedge (5 - 50*) are playing a true standard size while the Driver, 3/7 woods, hybrid, and 54/58 are all the thicker feeling. I was going to get midsize grips for the 5-50* so they all felt the same, however I am playing some really good golf with the difference. This is the first time that I have had this happen to me and while in my GolfWRX head (need to buy different stuff) it bothers me, but playing and feels, it couldn't be better...

I don't really know what i'm asking, but is this "normal" or should I cave and buy stuff lol?

I have been down this rabbit hole as well. For the longest time I needed everything to be the exact same or it really triggered me. This current year I have dropped my handicap by 4 and am playing some of the best golf I ever have. A few of my grips are different sizes, I have some unorthodox iron combos in my bag, now my mindset has gone from being uniform to now how can I replicate how this grip feels forever. If it works it works. Do not change.

Most people don't know to pay attention to butt diameter, they just use the same grips (and or same # of tape layers) on every club. Would they be better off if they did? Hard to say. I doubt it would make a significant difference but you never know.

However, it might not be a high percentage, but there are people who intentionally play different grip sizes in different clubs.

Forget "normal" and stick to whatever works. 😄

I have midsize grips on irons and wedges. On woods and driver, I have oversize grips. I don’t have big hands. Works well for me. At 70, I’m playing the best golf of my life. Started playing at age 45.

Experimenting with a progressive grip size in my bag at the moment. I have come to really like a midsize grip with a built up lower hand on my wedges. Choking down is much more comfortable. The problem is whenever I put these grips on my long clubs I start losing shots right (RH). On top of the miss, the club can feel too heavy with some midsize grips. What I have worked out at the moment is Tour Velvet Mids (53 gm) on driver and fairways, MCC mids (59gm) on irons, and MCC mid +4 (65 gm) on wedges. I like the setup so far.

Not anything too extreme, but I'm playing a JumboMax on my driver and standard everywhere else.

Use the JumboMax because I get super handsy with the driver and it helps with that. Or at least in my head it does.

What would you expect to gain by making a change?

I have different size grips currently on 4 clubs. I have MCC+4 throughout and was typically playing midsize. I wanted to try a larger grip and see if I liked it better but didn't want to do everything at once so I changed Dr, 3W, 6i and PW all to the jumbos a couple weeks ago. It took a bit to get used to having the different size grips but for the short term it's working fine, I'll be changing everything over to the jumbo though since I'm liking it better.

I have winn wraps on wedges and irons, and dri-tac lite on hybrids and woods. They're slightly different in diameter, and notably different in feel. I did it to have a roughly moi matched set. So far it has worked well.
