In between Titleist T150 and T100?

henry14

Recommended Posts

I’m a 14 handicap, I play regularly which is about 45 holes/week, 1-2 lessons a month and 1-2 range sessions a week.  I started about 18 months ago.

I was fitted for T150: 1deg weak 5-P, T200 4i 1deg weak. KBS Tour X 130g shafts.

I play a TSR 2 driver set to 10 deg with an X shaft. Ive played a few different woods, but now using a 16 degree, and 18 degree set to 20.

T100 seem way too far out of my league, but does an iron exist that’s the size and profile of a T150 but without the extra juice?

I am a big guy and have a fast swing speed. My driver is 117-120, 115 is easy.

The T150 are good, but I don’t like how much help there is. My PW shouldn’t be going 165 yards. I borrowed a friends set of T100 and Wilson Staff CB, both went about 145.

I would love an iron with similar characteristics of the T100, but closer to T150 profile, or maybe just move to T100, or Wilson Staff CB?

What’s out there?

I don't know if this helps, but I'm a big Titleist fan and was looking into the 150s. The fitter had me try several different irons including the Srixon line up.  He ended up fitting me in the zxi7's which should be between the t150 and t100's.  These things look and feel incredible!  You should really consider giving them a try if you haven't yet.

Best,

Glory

IMO the Titleist T100 is more of a forgiving iron than the Wilson CB. CB is a bit smaller and thinner profile.

That said I think your plan sounds valid….just need to learn to harness the swing speed into a full game.  Give it time…in this game 18 months is nothing. At the rate you’re improving the T100 and CB wouldn’t be an issue.

edited to add the Srixon mentioned above are very solid as well.

Could you not just bend the T150’s 2 or 3 degrees weak instead of 1 degree?

What gave you that idea?    The only thing that's important is how they actually perform for you.  You just have to look at more than just the launch/spin/distance when evaluation performance.  What's the dispersion?  How consistent and good is your face impact location (use foot powder spray)?  Is there really a forgiveness issue or not?   Any issues with accuracy or shot shape control?   That's the only way to judge whether it really is out of your league or not.  Forget all the things people say about what you "should" or "should not" be playing.

Anytime anyone tries to tell anyone what they should or should not be playing based on anything other than actual test data from you hitting the club or shaft or head (such as things like swing speed or handicap) - that is the person you want to walk away from and find someone else to help you decide.

You meant the guy that joined here and left after a week in a hissy fit because he wasn't willing or able to back up any of his "opinions" (pseudo science) and was insulted that they would even be challenged?    That wouldn't' be my recommendation but everyone has to make up their own decision.

It sounds like you’re looking for something with a forgiveness profile but without the strong lofts?

This right here.

Play golf.  Learn to pull back on your swing; swing 75% and focus on the strike.  Maybe bend the clubs 1 more degree weak.  Moving to a smaller head that's harder to find the center of, is no answer.

I have owned both and I don't find the them that different. It's an interesting thought on the Staff CB but I don't know that they are any easier to hit. The T100 still has a lot of tech that the Wilson doesn't.

I would focus more on what sole works for you, what shaft works for you, and what loft.

If I were you I would get T100s.

You should see about 1/2 club difference between the T100 and T150. In the new model, you should see 1/4 club difference or about 3-4 yards. I wouldn't get the T100 because you imagine the PW goes 20 yards shorter, that's just not realistic. I've played both the 2023 models, I actually play a combo set now. They're VERY similar irons. A little extra tungsten is your friend, I'd lean T150.

Part of having the speed you do is learning how to use it effectively. Finding some sort of gripped down/ short follow through controlled iron is my suggestion.

Agreed. 8-G have the same construction (no tungsten after the 7 iron) between the T100 and T150 with the biggest difference being the loft which is down to only a 1* difference in the 2025 line, so one of the strikes would have had to be worse than the other if the OP truly saw a 20 yard variance with the pw (basically it wasn’t the clubs).

The difference yardage wise depends on the user, but for most of us mirror mortals, isn't much.  There's a reason T100 is the most played iron on tour. When a person has high SS, typically they don't want the extra yardage.

I been playing T100 3i-9i, since 2023.  However, last year bought a set of T150 to see for myself. They lasted months before giving them to a more appreciative home. I didn't like the trajectory or spin. Anyway, I had the T100 lofts strengthened 1° to see, and so far, so good.

I play mine (6-PW) a degree strong as well. They go high, straight and long (for me). Can't complain

I guess that’s the guy. I like watching his club reviews. Pretty thorough, and he uses 3 different club speeds, and I like his “forgiveness” ratings.

I haven't seen any of his videos but I have been to his web site.   At first glance it does look impressive but it really didn't take long to figure out he really doesn't understand the science he's using to justify his results and he's not very transparent with his methodology and even rationalizations in many cases.

So, you are paid subscriber? I don’t think can get any information from his site unless you buy a subscription.

Correct.  No real information just some example graphs and vague claims as teasers.

But you'd think if someone wanted to sell data like that, they'd put at least some effort into "selling" or validating that the data is actually worth the money being asked.

But we're kind of getting off on a tangent and away from the OP's issue.  Maybe we should take this to a PM if you have any interest to keep going.
