TAYLORMADE SPIDER TOUR X RULES!

Not matter what anyone says, all the fuss about zero torque, the naysayers about the Spider's Pure Roll inserts, etc. etc. there is no question these putters are amongst the best ever. Four amongst the Open's Top 10 played Spider X, including Champion Golfer of the year Scheffler - Others such as McIlroy, Gotterup and MacIntyre also gamed it...

Results speak for themselves, and this Taylormade flat stick will go down in history as amongst the best of the best.

I personally had 3 birds today with 'MySpider' during my regular Sunday morning round, and it's a winner for us amateurs as well!

We are in different times now, almost all OEM's are making quality products. PGA players are the best. in the world they could use a putter from 1900 and still figure out how to make putts. I do agree technology has changed in the last 20 years with putters & grooved faces, but let's be honest mallet putters as a whole have made one of the biggest impact on putting i guess because of stability & forgiveness. I'm putting with a 2008 Yes Dawn Tour blade & it's 17 years old,. If you look at Matt Fitzpatrick putter is basically the same Yes tracy model putter he's played since his youth but with Bettinardi badging.

If a person can get past the looks of a larger MOI mallet, and distance control with it is good, the face stability alone is worth using one. Since switching from a blade to a mallet, my path and intended line are SOOOOO much better. I think blade/anser style putters will be the minority soon, and possibly fall out completely, much like the 8802 and Bullseye of yesteryear.

I’ve said it often, I LOVE the look of a blade and will occasionally bring mine out for a different look, etc.

In a recent ‘switch period’, my blade performance was good, but even with custom weighting to bring significantly more mass and ostensibly increased MOI, they simply don’t have the forgiveness and inherent consistency of a mallet.

Can’t remember what tour pro said this recently, but thought he described it best - ‘Using a blade is akin to driving a Porsche, a mallet an SUV’…

I can’t remember are you using it at stick swing weight or did you add some weight?

I think the stock swingweight is super light on these at 35 inches, something like d2.  I demo it and alsways put it almost immediately back down due to the lightness.

I'm thinking of trying one out, but I know in the past I haven't been a big fan of the TPU type insert; it felt muted and a little "soft" for lack of a better word.

Have they made it a bit firmer now so it's not quite like hitting metal (like my current Agera), but not like hitting softer rubber either?

What is the headweight of the style of spider that Scheffler uses?

Through a google search, I can’t seem to find it again but I think I read last year that his Spider is 35.5 inches long and has a headweight of 343g. This is considerably lighter than the stock weight of the Spider X headweight of 355g.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the headweight of 343g information can’t be looked up or sourced anymore. Taylormade probably know that people will want the Spider X in Scottie’s exact specs and it would probably cost them millions to produce these 343g heads and many people will probably feel that the 343g headweight feels too light and hence, will probably not sell mass units. If that’s the business mindset, I get it,

If you go through myspider on taylormade you can get one with the aluminum insert which is what I have in my tour x as well as my soto. I have a long neck soto and an L neck spider tour x which gives me the best of both worlds option wise in my opinion, similar toe hang profiles but obviously different looks and whatnot.

I had the same through whenever I rolled the normal ones in the store in regards to the insert being way too soft.

Are you sure about D2? I just got a stock 35in version and did a basic calculation using the Hireko calculator and it shows at E0.

What length is that headweight for?  There is no way on earth the headweight is the same for a stock 32 inch putter as a stock 35 inch putter.

Yup, there’s a 10g increase in the headweight between 35 inches, 34 inches and 33 inches and below. I’m assuming that it’s the 34 inch that has a headweight of 355g and the 35 and the 33 inch are 10g lighter and 10g heavier respectively but I'm open to correction.

Here is the weight table for the Spider Tour Series...

To the point of weight, the 35" stock are 1g aside - Far too light. The 34" comes stock w/6g aside. My 34.5" gamer has custom TSS weighting at 11g aside, which for me are perfect.

They’re outstanding putters and the current range offers so much versatility with the weighting and different CG depths. They’re also not very large — my son says he prefers his Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K wide blade because the Spiders are “too small.” The relatively modest size compared to other mallets is a big plus IMO.

I know how to order one, thanks. When I said I built one and hadn’t pulled the trigger, I meant that I customised one but didn’t click order. When I asked you, how do you find the long neck Soto, I meant, how does it feel and roll for you? My apologies, I should’ve phrased my question differently. I’ve never rolled a long neck Anser/blade style before so was curious as to how it feels compared to the standard plumber’s neck Soto.

Personally I like a little bit longer neck. I've spent a lot of time with face-balanced putters, so having a longer neck on the blade feels like less of a departure, like the shaft axis isnt so far heel-side. If that makes sense

I asked a TM rep at the golf show and he said around 335-340g.  This is around where many tour players have their putters, so it aligns.  Rory is at about 335g.

Dude said that you can do this by changing/removing the weights?  I don't play it, so I don't know.

I am so tempted.  I have a LAB DF3 and really like it, but I keep getting drawn into the Scheffler Spider.  I'm a sucker for buying things pros use, but also... if I think through all of the best putters I know personally, of course they have practiced endlessly, but also all user Spiders.

Yes, the TSS weights are easily acquired and easy to change, experiment, etc.

Good! I came from a ping tr1966 anser before and enjoy the more face balanced nature. I found that I don't leave the blade nearly as open. It's funny because the L neck spider and the long neck soto are 1 degree off on toe hang but the soto face is longer heel to toe than the spider so it's a little harder to shut it vs the spider. Given the nature of how much lighter the soto is vs the spider it's great on fast greens.

Also the less toe hang really allows me to start it better on line inside 5-8 feet.

Loved my MySpider tour X since I bought it April last year. Prefer the pure surlyn face in mine over the mixed insert on the standard ones. Can’t see it ever leaving the bag, each time I’ve taken it out it’s gone back in within one round - sometimes it’s back in before I even get to the course 🤣
