TAYLORMADE SPIDER TOUR X RULES!

I putt well with the Tour X but don’t like the feel of the insert. The milled proto is perfect.

If you go through myspider on taylormade you can get one with the aluminum insert which is what I have in my tour x as well as my soto. I have a long neck soto and an L neck spider tour x which gives me the best of both worlds option wise in my opinion, similar toe hang profiles but obviously different looks and whatnot.

I had the same through whenever I rolled the normal ones in the store in regards to the insert being way too soft.

Thanks for the info.  I threw something together to try it out and it wouldn't ship until February 2027.

Guess I'm sticking with my Cobra Agera for now ha ha.

Mount Rushmore of putters for sure. Glad you're enjoying yours and rolling in bombs. Never had the opportunity to game one. Unfortunately, I jumped on the zero torque bus and not sure I can jump off at this point. Hah.

Same. Every time I try a mallet my lag putting suffers.  Yes, I need to practice more, but my 3-putt avoidance is better with a milled blade.

I’m the exact same. My 3 putt avoidance is much higher with a blade. I’m a little better with a mallet form 6 feet in but from 25 feet plus, I’m much better with a blade. There’s a trade off but the blade is a much better option for me.

Im very intrigued by the TM lineup.  I use an Odyssey Microhinge now.  Was at PGA SS in Plano TX over the weekend and picked up a TM and started making everything on the practice green lol.  I forgot to take a damn pic and now I cant remember what it was.  It had 0 dangle angle though, that much I know.  Im intrigued.

I had the same issues with three putt avoidance with every mallet before I got my L neck tour X. Now I rarely 3 putt, it plays just like a blade for me but way more forgiving. I’d tried previous spiders with slant necks, double bends, a phantom 5.5, a two ball (worked for me when they first came out 20 years ago) and so on. No mallet worked, until I got this specific spider.

I like many in this thread struggle with speed control with a spider,  15ft and in I don’t think there is anything better, when I practice with multiple putters a spider is the easiest for me to have putts rolling line over line. But I’m almost guaranteed at least 1 3 putt per round with a spider in my hands. Went on a 45 hole streak without a 3 putt this summer with an Ai one blade. I wish TM would get away from “dampening and softening” and make it a little louder. A Spider with an Ai One insert would be the unicorn I’m chasing.

I was on vacation in Florida last week and stopped into a nearby Edwin Watts to roll some putters. This was on Monday the day after the Open and as I made my way around the putting green trying various putters I saw the Spider Tour X and though hey, there's Scheffler's putter. I don't know if it was the shape of the alignment aid or the contrast of the black and white head that made the alignment aid pop, but I was rolling this putter on line better than any other putter I had rolled to that point. I couldn't take it home with me on the plane, but I really wanted to. Fast forward to Saturday and I found myself in the PGA SS in Nashville TN. I went straight to the Tour X and spent the next hour going back and forth between the 34" and 35", both with the L neck. I ended up going home with the 34". I took it out for 9 holes last night after work and had 14 putt which is great for me and that even included a 3 putt.

If you’re used to a blade I would recommend trying the Spider heads with the more weight-forward design, the V and the Z. I think Shane Lowry uses on of those. They’re not all the same and the weight is adjustable. Can also get a firmer aluminum face. Personally I enjoy the stock face. Puts a great roll on the ball.

Some blade users do not adapt well to back-weighted mallets or a deep CG feel. This lineup gives you options. This is from Today’s Golfer:

Do all these heads come with 6g weights and weigh 355g stock? With the heaviest weights available (16g) this would put the head weight at 375g. Does anyone else feel that these still feel much lighter than other 375g heads or is it just me? It’s the only thing that has been keeping a spider out of my bag..

Spent the winter down in Florida, and when I got back to NY in the spring, my putting went cold. The Spider X1 (34.25") just wasn’t behaving. So naturally, I went down the rabbit hole…

First was the Odyssey DB Mini Jailbird. Then came the Scotty Phantom 5. That turned into a Newport 2, then the 1.5, then an Odyssey 7S. From there I bounced to the Phantom 5.2, then back to a GOLO S… you get the idea.

Eventually I circled back to the Spider X1 — and that’s when it hit me: maybe it wasn’t the arrow, it was the Indian. But after all that, I realized the real issue… the putter was a half-inch too long. Simple as that.

Once I trimmed it to the right length, the Spider X1 instantly felt like an extension of my hands. The feel, the balance, the forgiveness — nothing else came close. I’ve been playing golf for 30 years, and I can honestly say:

The Spider X1 is the best putter I’ve ever used.

It’s deadly on short putts, stable as hell on long ones, and somehow gives you that confident blade-like feedback without punishing mishits. Just an absolute weapon.

To me it depends on the head. The deeper the CG, the more weight I need for it to feel right to me. I had the Tour head and at 34 inches that one comes with 6g stock weights. I ordered it with 10g weights and it was perfect. Might be different with the V or Z heads. I don’t know how heavy the weights come in but that is certainly a key to dialing these in. And it is very individual. Scheffler has his head playing at 340g!

I would love to hear how that works out! I guess what adds to my problem is that I play my putters at 33 inches, which obviously makes them feel even lighter..

Speaking of affairs, some of the greens at the courses I frequent in the great white north this summer have been playing quite slow as rain has been minimal and high-heat, humidity the norm in southwest Ontario (Courses are afraid of losing, burning out their greens)...

My putting was good, but not great of late and decided to go back to my TP Reserve B29 blade and had great success for a week, somewhat less so in 'week 2' so I'm going back to my custom 'MyTP' Spider X starting today.

What intrigued me were the comments in this thread on lag putting w/the mallets but the increased confidence when in close. I found my longer putting w/the blade was indeed really positive, sinkng a few very lengthy ones for exciting birds, but I began to suck from within 8-10'...

Is it something akin to the characteristics between a mallet and a blade, or is it something else?

Regardless, my 3 putt percentage has always been very low, with both blade and mallet, but if I had to choose between making the odd 25-35' putt, or making 8-10' putts consistently every time, I would choose the latter without question...

heck I would like to just get better at 2-4 footers on fast greens 😂

I played in a couple tourney in lighting greens last month and I had a round where I hit 17 greens and 40+ putts.  Wrap your head around that
