New Club Glove Travel Bags - Size?

Looking at the new club glove travel bag models

 

2 questions:

- leaning between the larger and smaller sizes. Based on their explanations, looks like large is meant for staff bags and the others for stand bags. I only have a stand bag. Like the idea of extra space for packing purposes, or taking swag home, but am I missing anything why that would be a bad idea? Clubs fly around during travel? 
 

- anyone familiar with materials, is 1608D Cordura way stronger than 2000D polyester?

I've been using a Club Glove "Collegiate" for years now and it's always been wonderful. Never had any issues with it. More than enough room for my stand bag and a pair of shoes. Just make sure you get the stiff arm to go with it.

 

Looks like they have changed the name and the Collegiate is now called the "Club Traveler".

Yeah, I have that one from like 2008. It’s lasted so well, not afraid to upgrade. 
 

feel like extra storage is great for merch purchases, haha, but worried like maybe the big CG bag would have too much space and my slim carry bag would get jostled around too much

.;. I have been looking for one to buy my son, so thanks for your positive opinion. Golf Galaxy has a "traveler" bag for $350 but also a "college traveler" bag for $325. Hard to tell from the descriptions what the difference is. They both come with a stiff arm.

I haven't have any exposure to the new models post Titleist acquisition but the collegiate model is fine for a true carry bag - the kind with an oval shaped top and 4-6 dividers.

 

If I intended to use it with a hybrid bag or a 14 way carry bag with a larger, rounder top, I'd want to check for fit before committing (or make sure I understand the return policy).

I’ve had a Club Glove collegiate travel bag for years.  Top quality product!

 

My last two stand bags have been bigger than your typical slim stand bag (which I would describe as a Ping Hoofer or something similar).  I had a Titleist Premium Stand bag and now own a Vessel Lux V stand bag and both of them are a very tight fit to get the travel bag zipped up.

 

If Club Glove is now offering a middle size bag, that would be my recommendation.  Anything large enough for a staff bag would seem like it would have way too much extra room for a regular stand bag.

 

Unless you travel with clubs often, I’d use an old stand bag and pack just the essentials to keep it light using a smaller size travel bag.

Travel 4-5 times a year. As stated above, want to go bigger because extra space sounds better. Just want to make sure it’s not going to create problems where my bag bounces around too much in transit.

The external straps should snug things up, and I've usually got bags with shoes and other stuff in mine to help fill things out and provide extra club protection without going overweight.

The CG Collegiate bag will easily fit a hybrid 14 stand bag.

 

As far as extra space, I thought the airlines were no longer allowing you to stuff extra stuff in a golf travel bag.  I haven’t flown with my bag in a few years, but IIRC I read somewhere that you can no longer put anything but a golf bag/clubs in your travel bag, no?

 

OP, if you buy one, I’d be curious what you think of the material.  I heard they also changed the material and some people have claimed that it’s thinner/less durable, but I don’t know if that’s based on actual experience or people just speculating.

That's interesting.   I've got a Hybrid 14, and a couple of years ago found some collegiates in a store on closeout (due to the Titleist purchase/rebranding).   I tried putting one of the store's H14s into the bag and while it could be done, getting the zipper closed near the top of the H14 took enough effort that it was a concern to me. 

 

As far as the fabric goes, had a chance encounter when I brushed by one of the new models hanging in a store.  It felt "smoother/thinner".   We often  associate the coarser feeling stuff as tougher even if that's not always the case, so maybe that's what's behind some of the claims.

I have the collegiate now and have sometimes thought, “I wish had more space”

I would assume the number listed is the weight or some measure of thickness of the material? 
 

2000 would be thicker than 1600, is my guess? 
 

generally speaking, I would assume Nylon is stronger than polyester. 
 

so like 1600 Nylon > = durability of 2000 polyester 
 

so maybe they went with a thinner or better looking material that is stronger on paper?

I had a Titleist Hybrid 14 years back and had no trouble getting it in the Collegiate bag.  It was a snug fit but not at all a stress on the golf bag or the travel bag.  I liked the snug fit because nothing flopped around inside.  I have a Carbon 4 bag now and it kinda swims a bit in the Collegiate bag.

Which material is better for the skin of a golf travel bag?

Recommendation:

• If you travel frequently and need maximum protection, go with 1608 ballistic nylon.

Yes, did it once the legs on the ping carry bag were bent and broken.  Went out and bought a collegiate which I’ve used ever since.

My buddy had his bag damaged by ship sticks and got reimbursed to get a new travel bag while at Sand Valley. He got the bigger one, and has a stadry 4 bag. There is an internal strap to lock the bag in and it’s not overly huge, but this is the staff bag model just the middle size.

I just got the new club size - it is actually a bit larger than the old collegiate. Very interesting. I am not sure how I feel about it - I did like the smaller size of the old collegiate  as many have said, it kept everything nice and snug.

 

I would say that the new "club" is more like the old midsize. 

They also moved the pockets to the inside of the bag, and as mentioned, have a strap to secure your bag inside now.

 

I am torn on keeping my old collegiate or this new club!
