Irons Built W MMT Logo Up!?

Just got my custom-built 4–G TS3 DBM irons with MMT Matte 90 shafts from GolfWorks. I've worked with them before on builds and had a great experience, but this time... not so much.

The irons showed up today with the MMT logos facing UP on every club. I definitely didn’t request that, and as far as I know, that’s not industry standard, right?

They look brutal at address — but damn, they look clean from the underside. I’m assuming I don’t have much recourse here, but man, it’s frustrating.

Unfortunately that is the way Golfworks builds all clubs. You have to request logo down. You aren't the first to be caught out like this and IMO it's the wrong thing for them to do and understandably frustrating. I would call and complain, politely.

That does look brutal. I have MMTs logo down in my irons, and god I wish there weren't any graphics on the non logo side. Even those dotted lines look too busy for my eye. Good luck getting some relief from them!

I've got MMT's as well and they look fine logo down at address.  Ofc a clean look would with no logos would be awesome, but it's all good.  OP, your irons look like an eye sore because they were built logo up but it's obviously not your fault.

There’s not even an option to request logo-down for irons in the custom shop, yet when you order a custom wood shaft with an adapter, they do let you choose logo orientation. I know because I just did it — ordered a Ventus Blue with a Ping adapter and selected logo down. Frustrating.

Yeah you have to just write it in the comments for the order. I did that with my set I just got 2 weeks ago because I read about this happening.

I installed mine (MMT) logo up and played well haha. Now I don’t mind logo up. If it’s any solace when you pick your clubs up, the head orients it so you see the logo-free side

If you wanted them built a certain way you should have specified any special instructions when ordering.  Usually these things happen when people assume something without asking.

true - but also golfworks is in the minority on this one. And they should probably disclose that is how they assemble clubs. Imagine if they installed grips logo down, instead of making it a custom option like most OEM's do? I'm sure most people would be confused when they got their order. 

 

shafts logo down, grips logo up is a pretty typical "stock" build.

All logos down should be the default "stock" build IMO, because people who actually care care about it being down instead of up. I dont know anyone who has their logos up on their grips that would care if they were logo down.

Again, 100% true.  It's like saying Standard Lie, Loft and Length when you are used to Titleist specs and go to Taylormade.

I always ask, grips and shafts - logo's up or down.  Same with specs  Whose standard and what do you really want?

 

Anyone ordering anything - anywhere, one needs to be specific or ask questions.  It's like ordering a Greek Salad and you don't like Feta Cheese.  Don't be mad if it comes with Feta Cheese if you didn't tell them.

or - crazy thought - make a stock installation consistent with 90+% of stock OEM builds.

Some grips are made to be logo up.

I agree that confirming the details of the custom build are important. But if the fitter/builder doesn't ask - then deviates from what is a 'norm' I wouldn't blame the customer.

 

I've never even thought to confirm logos up/down because I'm fine with how OEM's install them in their 'standard configuration'. I know people say there are no industry standards, but this is as close to one as I've seen.

Anywho… Golf Works just got back to me, they are changing their policy to default to logos down and are offering to make this right for me free of charge.  Great customer service and Im surprised they ever had this policy to begin with.

Just a thought, but.....

 

Most graphite shafts have graphics which work great for alignment of your hands when taking your grip, which I happen to do. I have always installed mine logo up for this reason. When I played steel shafts I had to either mark the shaft or use the shaft band. I sometimes mark my graphites still, but a black shaft is problematic as you have to use a colored paint or tape it to show the mark. I say to each his/her own, but logos can be useful.

I've got a set of T100s laying around with MMT logos up from Titleist. Glad Golf Works helped you out!

The range of preferences on here is proof people should specify when having clubs built if it matters to them.

 

Agree grip logo up, shaft logo down has been the norm I've run into. Relatively easy to adjust grip alignment with air or with spirits still on there. More painful and potentially messier to try and get shaft logos up and perfectly aligned with epoxy applied than to simply get them turned downward enough to keep the logo out of sight. Anyone with OCD's gonna lose it and even others might be mildly annoyed if every logo doesn't sit exactly the same way if they're up.

I find it odd that there are so many posts here talking about logo down being regarded as a near necessity.  I've done both, and frankly wouldn't care if they came either way.

 

To be fair, I've intentionally installed some shafts, primarily in drivers/woods, with the logo kicked sideways.  Not perfectly 90° askew, just kicked to the side randomly.  😈

I have my Dart V's logo up. Logo is pretty subtle, and gives me confirmation on my alignment when I'm second guessing myself.

Logo up usually causes 4-5 shots worse per round.  I would complain to them.
