Trail foot.

Anyone have any drills or and past experiences to help get your trail foot to bank in/roll to eliminate my trail hip going toward the golfball?

 

Also, if anyone have any experience with this, should the feel in your right thigh and left thigh touch more in your impact/finish? Feels like when I think I get my trail foot rolled in this happens

Buy a door stop and put it under your trail foot...angled toward the target. Hit balls with it under there.

Check your setup before you do anything. If you're setup improperly (especially the hips/pelvis) you'll have to work 1000x harder to not sway/roll your trail foot over to the outside. Ask me how I know lol. 

 

Nicklaus used to do a drill where he would start with both his feet banked toward the target, and stay there the entire swing. Might be a good way for you to get a feel for it.

Well, my problem is my right hip and knee going towards the ball in the down swing.  Causing my early extension. I guess if you have another solution to fix this I’d be open to it.

So Mickey Wright, who's equal to Annika Sorenstam or arguably better for an LPGA career, had an old-school drill for the trail foot in her book. Tom Watson also wrote about the drill in his book as well.

 

Place a golf ball under the middle of the outstep of the trail foot to put more pressure on the instep and stop the weight from going out to the outstep, which stops hip swaying/reverse pivoting. But a whole golf ball is too steep for the ankle to pronate that much, so a better variation is to cut it in half; this also has the added benefit of it not slipping and sliding out from your outstep on grass. 

 

Another good footwork drill is to put a water bottle just outside the heel of your right foot on the outstep side. At no point at all in the swing are you supposed to hit the water bottle, especially in the downswing. Hogan, Tiger, Nicklaus, Snead, etc. they would never hit the water bottle at all, you can check every video of their swings face-on. 

 

Don't be too concerned about keeping the heel on the ground in the downswing. As long are your arms catch up with your lower body in front from the downswing transition, that heel can go up as much as it wants.

I'd wager a good bit of $ that your EE starts and is even mostly in the backswing.

 

What you're seeing as the cause is most likely a result of something earlier.

Yeah you’re not wrong, I’ve slowly been trying to clean that early extension in the backswing. Super hard to do but I’m getting results.

i struggle with this as well - i have a different outcome - staying in forward bend rather than ee - arms come thru rolling thru impact

 

the different drills i use - water bottle inside the right ankle - knock is over on downswing, 'bowler drill' drop your right leg back away from the target line - can bring that right leg closer to the left and turn out the toes - this will give you the feel of hips forward enough on the downswing and tucking hips, 12-16 inch long 6 inch diameter foam roller placed behind and slightly to the left of your left foot - insures you are pushing your left leg in the correct manor,  last drill - an alignment stick thru a range bucket (or other device)  you would angle it so that it's about an inch infront of that right knee parallel to the target line
