I think I have an allergy to Adam Sandler 🤣

But for you, my good man, I’ll try this second one 🍻

Heck. You have to watch the first to get the second.

Just spoke to my dad (He’s 89) Completely unsolicited he says “I watched the Happy Gilmore sequel last night. It was stupid. Nowhere near as good as the first”.

Safe to say there are no signs of dementia/Alzheimer’s! 👍🏼

😂

The fact that he can work the Netflix says that. Our 80 year olds refuse to give up flip phones.

... Don't look at HG2 as a movie with a plot, remotely cohesive story line or even decent acting. Just look at it like a 1:54 minute Netflix Comedy Special with tons of cameo's from professional golfers (and most assuredly would not qualify for a SAG card). Like all comedy specials there are hits and misses. I admitted earlier it surprised me with more hits than misses but maybe a 51% to 49% ration. As a golfer I think it is worth watching for the cameo's alone and without those cameo's I would have bailed on it well before the end.

Great way to look at it chi!
A comedy special/homage to the original.

But it does make me laugh to think:

-How was the movie?
-Besides no plot, no cohesive story line and bad acting, it was great!

It was a lot better than I expected, I expected it to be terrible and it was quite enjoyable. I feel weirdly enough despite the nonsensical plot it was actually quite knowing and aimed at golf fans, way more than a lot of other slightly more serious golf films/TV shows. The Scheffler and Zalatoris stuff for example, I don't think a lot of non-golf fans would understand, but golfers would laugh at it.

Sitting here eating my Cheerios n all the boys in Pat McAfee’s “Thunder Dome”. (In my defense ESPN was on when I turned on the TV) thought it was “a home run”! 😂

*another endorsement against it IMO

🤣

**since they went baseball analogy. Here goes:

First part was a solid double in the gap.

Second was a strike out looking in the bottom of the 9th with the tying run on 3rd.

is it just me or was the character played by John Daly excessively degenerate?

Obviously these are public figures/"brands" (Daly, Bryson, Sheffler, Nicklaus, etc) and I'm sure their "people" reviewed the script and negotiated changes if they felt it made their guy look bad...

Daly is drinking hand sanitizer and playing an absolute loser when he already has the reputation of being an alcoholic.

Am I looking too deeply into it?

Does Daly simply not care about his image?

I think, even if subconsciously, the image of him drinking hand sanitizer is going to stick in peoples' minds. And it's not a script any self-respecting pro would agree to.

lol I guess I refuse to embrace the suck.

John Daly is actually more interesting than a lot of the "Tour" players. They could have used him in golf scenes.

Or he could have at least just played a fun guy who likes to drink beer and go to Hooters.

But a total loser who just lays on the couch and drinks hand sanitizer? why would he agree to that role . .

Got him to give up the flip’ a couple years back. He still has trouble w/the iPhone. “I miss my old phone”. Has been said several times! Haha

Then there’s my mom. She’s 90, going on about 50. Vibrant to say the least.  She’s become a texting fiend. My kids have to block her sometimes as she’s East Coast and can’t seem to grasp, or remember, time zones.   Up at 5:30 every day too.  Sux if you live in Seattle. 🤓😀

I watched the trailer. Believe I’ve seen enough.

Kind of the same here. But I’ll give it a try just to see Daly, another Arkansas boy.

Reminds me of the time a group of buddies decided we wanted to get together and watch one of our favorite movies from way back when, Blazing Saddles. We were all fixed with beer, popcorn, chips and just enough primed to have a good time.

Somewhere around the campfire scene someone got it right, “we thought this crap was funny in high school?”

I did start watching it. My inner 14 year old boy found some parts funny. I watched about half, I may, or may not watch the rest.

They killed Virginia 3 minutes in. Stopped watching. The first one was quite juvenile, but occasionally very funny. The reviews on this one are decidedly mixed. Still juvenile, but not quite as funny. Cameos and a weird (partially AI) script don't really make for a memorable movie. The first one generated all manner of memes - everyone and their brother trying the multi-step drive, lots of quotable lines. People still talking about it years later. Highly doubt this one will be remembered a year from now. Maybe I'm wrong - but we'll see next year.

Side note - some sequels work, but many do not. When it comes to golf? From my perspective golf movies are almost all a one-and-done. There have been some amazing ones. The Greatest Game Ever Played. Bagger Vance. Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius (all three amazing - golf movies only completely understood by actual golfers). And the two giants (by far) still quoted in multiple threads today - Tin Cup, and Caddyshack. All of them stand on their own - none of them could be sequeled. (Actually, they tried to sequel Caddyshack - and it was a total freakin' dumpster fire).

There is literally not a single great golf movie I've seen that was even remotely improved by a sequel. But I'm an old curmudgeon (though I still think I'm right). Now get off my lawn 🤣

they didn’t even attempt to make a great sequel here.

this wasn’t even a real movie. It was just a montage of cameos.

Because we loved the first movie (so many years ago) and because our standard are so low for movies now, we accepted these cameos as a decent offering.

But there are many like me (I think). My standards have not lowered. Cameos? Um, no. I like watching Scottie pay golf. Really good. Watching his post-round interviews? Boring as a box of hammers. No desire to watch that. Can't even imagine wanting to see him "act" in a movie.

The original Happy is still being talked about. The sequel will be gone by 2026.
