2025 AIG Women's Open (Jul 31 - Aug 03)

I thought Nelly played her best round of the year today; not the score, but the tenacity to hang in there.  She hit 5/14 fairway and 12/18 green.  The 2025 version of Nelly would easily shoot +4 or +5, but she shot -2.

Weird that she says she doesn't really like links golf, which is the blueprint for getting creative on the course rather than being able to overpower it with distance.

I have managed to avoid posting until Mimi on 18th fairway!  Shaping up well so far.  Mimi looking good, Linn under par, Lottie level (but hopefully will find a few more shots tomorrow) and Nelly looking good.

 

i am enjoying the course and shall add it to my play list for sure.  “Working from home” tomorrow in front of television coverage!

Three under for Mimi.Happy with that.  One or two loose iron shots on back 9 so good outcome.

 

See her fan club (family and friends) is out in support.  I saw them all at the Curtis Cup.  Nice vocal support.

I'm not saying there were golf forums 30 years ago but I'm referencing the people who are on golf forums now (presumably into golf a lot as they spend time posting online) and are old enough to have been watching golf in 1995. You are telling me these people had next to zero interest in the Walker Cup which surprises me.

Walker cup cup is a concern for the players, their friends and family, and maybe some usga bluebloods.  Pretty much nobody else in the US, even rabid golf fans, knows anything about it.

Yeah solid start from LG, although she couldn't manage to keep a 6 of the card.  I will be there Saturday so hopeful she makes it and is in a late pairing. This is a real test I think and the solid tee to green ball strikers will rise to the top by Sunday. Can't wait! 😊

The Walker Cup, I remember Dale Earnhardt winning several times in the early 90's. What a legend.

Enjoyed the opening round. Didn't know much about the course, but it sure looks like it's playing as a proper links layout. When you see players in a greenside bunker playing perpendicular to the hole, it's proper. Lol. Greens look challenging for a seaside layout. 

 

Weather seemed fair across the two waves. Hope tomorrow is the same. 

 

Very impressed by the Japanese players. They obviously did their prep. 

 

Of course I'm stoked about Dumbo's round. The career grand slam is hers for the taking. No offense, Minjee. 

 

Got a big laugh from Ariya's "F me" after her tee shot on the 14th. Would have figured that a Thai f-bomb would have been forthcoming.

The quiet moments in this behind-the-scenes = Quite interesting (to me)

e.g. Jenny Shin diligently doing bunker practice & trying to ensure difficult lies / testing the practice sand bunkers ("hard bottom, fluffy on top"  = demands a slightly different technique?

You might want to watch in person in a few years.

It will be the only time any of the public has ANY access to view and/or walk Pine Valley course.

Wow Ariya must have been rl been amped up & pissed!

Usually all she does is hit 3w on the ground if she’s mad which is pretty rare.

if you managed to listen from beginning of today’s broadcast… Did you catch the names of radio commentators?

 

eg I see their tweet mentions Sue Thearle and Flic (Felicity) Johnson…

 

but I’m guessing Richard Kaufman (regular DPWT) and Sophie Walker (ex-LET) and Alison Nicholas  (ex-LET, not Whitaker) right now…

 

Earlier on, there was another pair (Michelle Thompson(??) a current LET player & maybe Iain Carter?

And a “Marcus” lurking around, and John Hopkins (Global Golf Post/ ex-Times UK/ a Welshman 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and member of Royal Porthcawl) , and another American who isn’t Big Randy from NoLayingUp) who were arguing the relative +’s and -‘s of the local Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 sausages 🌭 they had for breakfast.

@DuenPhen what would the Thai equivalent expletive/ exclamation-of-despair? I often hear “Mai Pen Rai”  (ไม่เป็นไร) 

but I think that’s meant more as “Relax /Chill / It’s ok/ No worries/ Never mind”

 

…or as a passive-aggressive “I disagree to do what you’ve asked… but I won’t say so explicitly “

I'm on the world feed today, having just registered. My hugs have been described as "very thorough" and would be seen as inappropriate in a post-round setting. These pros are more ceremonial and courtly.

Lol. You mean they're playing out of the same crummy bunkers that we play in daily? I think I could become a good bunker player if I got to play in the same consistent sand each week compared to the hardpan-with-a-dash-of-dirt ones we see regularly.
