Do your clubs fit in your car trunk/boot ?

I’ve looked into the Peugeot but Puretech engines are garbage so staying away from those.

So far the front runners are the Skoda Superb, Cupra LeonST and Mercedes C Class. I’d have to convince the wife on the estate car instead of an SUV though…But surprisingly the boot of modern SUV isn’t as big as you’d expect. I drive an ID4 and the bag has to be diagonal which isn’t great when you have to pile up suitcases on top of it…

Skoda Superb is a great one… huge trunk and comfortable. But you have to be careful with the VW Engines, some are good, others not so…

Remember, criminals carry flashlights. 😁

Plenty of cars of this ilk have roller shade like cargo covers available.   And if we think a seatback needs to come down, we have a cheap solid black tablecloth that we throw over exposed cargo if security is a concern.   Perfect, no, but thieves generally are moving quickly looking for something eye catching and assessing risk/reward.

Plus to a non golfer a golf bag draped in fabric looks a lot like a covered body.

If you’ve already got an EV - what about the ID7 or the A6? BMW with their iX or i5 wagon? Also the Toyota/Subie stationwagon twins are coming soon and I’m considering one as I’m quite happy with how big the Solterra is and so extra baggage space is only a plus?

2018 Mazda6 Signature trim, which has a typically huge trunk for a mid-sized sedan.  Low lift over height, lots of width, full bag fits fine even with driver.  Nice wide back bumper with a protective guard on it for changing shoes.

1968 Saab Sonett II V4, which has a fairly good sized rear trunk area...but a small access door from the back.  So I have to slide a smaller bag in carefully, and I have to remove the driver from the bag,.  Bag has to fit at an angle, since the car is narrow.

I take my driver when we car shop.  If it goes in sideways in the trunk/hatch then we may proceed.

BMW 535i. I do the same thing, before I even get interested in the car on the lot I ask the salesperson to open the trunk and I see if my clubs fit. In the case of this BMW they go in at an angle and my hand cart fits, as well

yep this ^^^

You can just take your bag and your driver and make sure it fits whatever vehicle you are looking at. If the bag and driver fit, everything else will just fine.

2025 Acura MDX and they easily fit straight across.  I also looked at the BMW X5, but the clubs would only go in at an angle, not across.  Having to put the clubs in at an angle in a premium full-sized SUV is unforgiveable design.

I drive a 2023 Corvette. There is a compartment behind the mid engine that holds my entire bag, except the driver. It rides on the passenger seat.

I always keep the seats down in the back of my Mazda 3. Not an issue, but no they do not fit in the boot.

Fully agree, unforgivable. It’s shocking how poorly premium brands perform regarding boot space. For similar dimensions, there’s up to 150L difference between the trunk of an Octavia/Leon,etc and a C-Class or A4 Avant.

Same for SUV, how can a Hyundai Tucson have so much more space than a GLC or X3 ?

Do they sacrifice it all for backseat comfort ?

I’m gonna have 2 baby/kid seats in the back for the next 5-6 years so trunk is more important than backseat space for the moment, maybe that will change in 6 years.

Acura RDX and they fit fine.  My full bag goes with me on every car test drive, if the clubs don’t fit I don’t even drive it.  As others have said, shocking how little width some SUVs have in the trunk/boot area.

Nothing to do with rear seat comfort, it's more to do with the mechanical bits. A Superb or Leon will typically be Front Wheel Drive based, a C Class or 3 Series will be Real Wheel Drive based, and an A4 is likely to have all the Quattro stuff at the back as well, which eats up boot space. Even a 4wd Superb or Leon will have less mechanical stuff at the back, due to the differences between Quattro 4wd systems and the Haldex stuff in Superbs and Leons.

I'm actually quite lucky with my 1 Series, as even though it's Rear Wheel Drive, the saloon style boot means theres a nice wide space behind the suspension turrets etc. If I had a similar generation 1 Series Hatchback, I'd be taking the woods out and struggling to fit my trolley in as well. As it is I have the best of both worlds - a nice golf club friendly boot and drive to the car comes from the correct end 🙂

Camaro ZL1 1LE - Deep trunk but not wide whatsoever and an incredibly small opening, can fit the clubs in the trunk but the woods have to come out and go diagonally across

This probably won't help you much outside of the US, but I drive a Ram 1500 pickup with Rambox storage. Golf clubs ride on one side, fishing gear rides on the other side. Some bags with large rounded tops don't fit, but I have a Burton bag with a more square top and it fits like a glove. I also keep an umbrella or two, a bag of extra balls, and a few other things in the Rambox compartment. All of my clubs and a Sklz 48 inch tempo trainer fit without taking them out of the bag.

The compartment locks with the door locks and is also insulated, so I haven't had any issues with clubs feeling hot to the touch when I take them out, even in Texas heat. No heat or humidity issues with electronics or batteries (rangefinders, portable speakers) either. I have to be careful putting my bag away if it's wet, because it will not dry out quickly. Usually if it gets wet I put it in my garage for a few hours to dry out before I put it back in the truck.

I have a '22 Mazda 3 hatch. One bag can fit in the trunk IF driver and 3 wood are pulled out and under the bag on a diagonal. Otherwise, yes, seats need to be folded down or clubs on the back seats entirely. So, there's at least an option if you only have one bag in the car and don't want them visible.

I do have to say, I'm appreciating the non-US posters in this thread.  Which is pretty much made up of people with hatchbacks, wagons, or coupes, and people talking about Skodas, Seats, Renaults etc.

Then the US based group saying their 7,000# full size truck and SUVs have no issues holding a bag.

What's funny too for the Non-US group, is the fact that we US buyers often get long-wheelbase versions of many of the compact class crossover.  You mention the Tucson, and they build a SWB and LWB version for global consumption.  We only get the LWB version in the states.  My wife has a Limited trim hybrid, and the backseat slides fore/aft about 6-inches.  In the back position I can't quite fit a full bag when laying it down lengthwise.  But if we slide the backseat forward a few inches, I can.  And it still has more rear legroom than a X3.

We had a second gen Tiguan before that, and it too was offered in SWB and LWB version for global consumption.  But we only got the LWB in the states.  It is usually only a 3-5" difference, but it is all the length of the rear doors.  I think I read they started selling the LWB Tiguan in the UK.

And then China has really oddball offerings, like LWB versions of Toyota Corolla sedans, and Audi A4s.  They like to stretch everything out 3-5" longer, even if it is a compact class sedan.
