Cell Phone GPS Question

Looking for software

I am about to switch from a Treo to a Tilt....I am also about to purchase either a range finder or a GPS Unit....Now my question is, is there adiquate software for Gps Enabled phones to use as a golf tool, and if so what is it and reviews please.

Intelligolf is the only application that I know of but there might be others. The Intelligolf looks like a great application. The problem is the accuracy of the GPS unit is sometimes insufficient. I had a Tilt and the accuracy was not good enough to use for golf....the same for several Blackberries that I have had. As usual, your mileage may vary.

 

off topic, I upgraded from Skygolf SG3 to the SG2.5 and it is really nice.

There are other good GPS devices besides Skygolf but I am pretty happy with mine.

I'd just use your cell phone and get a BT GPS receiver, then run it with Intelligolf. I will be doing this with my Blackberry this season.

A smartphone based Golf GPS is a very viable solution that is economical and "always with you." Depending on the actual phone sensitivity (or if you purchase an external puck/fob) your accuracy can be good to great.

 

Several companies are making software that runs on multiple platforms (WM, Palm, BB, etc.) and depending on your carrier can be up and running very quickly. If you have a carrier TM for example that does not allow 3rd party aps developers to access the GPS feed, then an external puck/fob is needed. Just because a device has GPS, does not mean it is enabled. :good: (It doesn't make sense as GPS, is by US Congress "in the public domain.")

 

 

Features may include much of what is on device-specific models (ability to map your favorite courses, Front, Center, Back, etc.) and additional stuff like distance to reach or carry targets/hazards, scoring, stats, etc.
