if you like, and respect John Daly (we would disagree, but I would understand why you do) then you should be grateful that at least ONE person on this earth is willing to tell him what a wreck he is making of his life. Every addict needs a dose of reality once in a while, and when daly dies (likely very young) Harmon will be able to sleep at night knowing he didnt help enable this addict.

Daly has made plenty and continues to make them, drinking, smoking and parting at the expense of his game his sponsors and ultimately his life. He is like tidy bowl, down the tubes! I appreciate your position, MKB, and I have no ill will in my heart for you, or for John Daly, but to think that the problem in the Harmon/Daly relationship was Harmon's is just putting serious blinders on. Harmon laid it all on the line to Daly to begin with, and Daly promised to toe that line, and then didn't.

 

It wasn't Harmon disrespecting big john, it was big john disrespecting big john, and Harmon refusing to give him any more rope. I think Harmon figures Daly has already hung himself, and doesnt need anymore hand outs.

Could you please enlighten me as to exactly what Butch said about JD that "wasn't true"??

That's cool....I hear ya....and I don't disagree with you, either (for the most part).

 

I know I'm a little biased when it comes to JD. I know him -- played golf with him a few times and have hung out with him a few times (I'm originally from Arkansas, went to undergrad and law school there). That's why it iritates me when people make blind and uninformed statements about the guy.

 

Sure, does he have his problems and vices? OF COURSE...who doesn't? BUT, i'll say this: the very people that are bashing him CONSISTENTLY would be best friends with this guy and (to some extent) admire the guy if they knew him and all of the GOOD things that he's done. I can tell you that he is one of the most genuine and down-to-earth , good-hearted guys you will ever meet......AGAIN, that doesn't mean he doesn't have problems an make poor decisions!!! Seems to me most guys hate him for the golfer he is/isn't, not really for the person he truly is......just what they think he is from the media....

 

It's just unfair for some of these guys to sling arrows at JD without knowing all and particulary without looking in the mirror. It's easy to say things when sitting behind a keyboard.

 

BTW, the Tiger example was probably a bad one since it wouldn't matter what ANYONE said about him.....considering, he IS the greatest player EVER.

The fact is, Butch made assumptions as to what John was doing that infamous day at the tournament without asking John personally. He went by word-of-mouth of others instead of asking JD first.......That's where the problem arose.

That's interesting.....that is a much different article (and even a different title) than the one I linked...Harig must have pre-released his story and then talked to Butch.....There were no Harmon quotes in the 'original' article I linked.

I didn't say John didn't drink.....I also know that there were other PGA golfers that drank during the mulitple hours of delay. Were they out in public sight at a tent, no.....but they drank nonetheless....and from what I've been told (don't slam me here since you've using the same hearsay), a few drank quite a bit.....oh no, I guess they should be committed as well.

Hey, this is nothing new. We all know that some people are HUGE JD fans and he may as well walk on water for these folks. That is cool, no problem.

 

Yes it does sort of amaze me when people follow and worship someone SO much that they cannot see the truth, but I am not hating on anyone and I truly don't give a hoot about JD or his ridiculous antics. I just love golf and like talking about it online.

 

I am going to let it go, because there is no sense in trying to get someone who loves JD to see things differently. And I suppose that is why JD continues to get the incredible amount of chances that he gets, becuase some people will simply never require that the guy own up to his actions. To each his own.

 

I'm going golfing. I will be wearing a shirt, some shoes, I will not be drinking alchohol on the course, and I WILL finish the round!
