What IRON SET has the shortest heel to toe length?

In other words, what set of irons has the sweetspot closest to shaft?
I'm interested to know some of the models on the market that have the shortest heel to toe length.

Just think of a hockey stick with its heel to toe length somewhere between 8 inches to a foot long.

I want something that's obviously much much shorter. Shorter to the point where I can almost feel like I'm hitting the ball with the shaft of the club. Shorter anyway, than the RAC Forged TPs that I have right now.

The recent macgregor satin blades with the milled faces were pretty tiny.

Those aren't on their site. I'm assuming it's a recent, yet older model. I'll check those out.

1970's Wilson or MacGregor's? i never played them, but from what i've read they're small, nad the sweet spot is like 1/4 in from the hosel.

1/4 inch? Eek! Feast or famine golf with those irons.

Macgregor Jack Nicklaus Muirfield, these have to be seen to be believed. The heads are barely longer than the ball. Last made in 91 and the 20th anniversary version which Nicklaus won the Masters with in '86 go for a little bit more. Come on Ebay every now and then. Be warned, they have a sweetspot smaller than a nats testicle.

The 962b's were shorter than standard from what I remember.

Yes, I still play the 962b's, I love em. They are so tiny, which is actually a bit of a problem, I cant find any clubs that I like visually compared to them. Trying to get MP-57's, don't play as much as I used to, need something more forgiving, though have been told that the 962b's are actually more forgiving than the MP-57's...wierd

Check out Nicklaus Golf because I believe the JNP blades might be just what you're after. Most modern day blades are now longer heel to toe than they used to be. In recent years, Titleist 681's are the most comparible to what you're looking for.

Haven't seen the Miura Tournament blades but I believe they're also very small heel to toe. Someone told me that Ian Woosnam took them out of his bag because they were too small!

Not sure if anyone remembers a set of Mizuno's called the TP-2000's (I think). Tiny tiny blade with a sort of gold finish. Only available in Europe sometime around 1990. Smallest blade I've ever hit and I've seen or hit plenty of blades from the 70's and 80's. If anyone has a picture of them I'd be eternally grateful.

Center-shafted irons = illegal

If you like that "feel" though - it hurts me to say this - but you could look at an old set of cleveland vas'

That shaft is as close to center of the clubface as legal in golf.

They also happen to be on the short list of ugliest clubs ever.

That being said - C-Pave to the left here, had some profitable years with them....but I suspect that had more to do with his mustache than the irons.

When looking at getting the sweet spot closer to the hosel - yes, look at heel-to-toe length - but also look at the length of the hosel section.

Typically, the longer the hosel, the closer the sweet spot is to it.

Any old school, long-hoseled, smallish blade is going to get you as close to the hosel as anything....but give a vas a go - you may really like it.

Personally, I don't think I hit anything but shanks with them when I tried a buddies in high school - but again, to each his/her own.

Aye Aye, Captain.

Very nice blades and the 'champagne' finish was a bit special in it's day.

Looks like you could play 36 holes with that during the day, take it home and use it to cut up an 18 ounce porterhouse in the evening.

A perfect instrument of torture for the ultimate purist like furry to flog himself with.

Damn those are small. I'd love to see a pic of those sitting behind a ball.

Why do you want such a small blade?

Just a guess.....

Freelance, too funny.

Anyway, if you can imagine someone swing a baseball bat, and right at impact, where barrel meets ball, the batter isn't trying to hit the ball with the barrel, but with a clubface a couple inches above the barrel of the bat.

Does this make sense?

Essentially, the batter is whiffing with the bat itself, but is making contact with the clubface located two inches above the barrel of the bat.

In addition to the MacGregor Muirfield, Browning made a forged blade with a really tiny head in the mid-late 80s. The 1 iron was excellent for putting cream cheese on a bagel.
