What IRON SET has the shortest heel to toe length?

I would have to say the Cobras are noticeably tiny compared to my Mizunos and any other Mizuno I've looked at.

Not sure if anyone remembers a set of Mizuno's called the TP-2000's (I think). Tiny tiny blade with a sort of gold finish. Only available in Europe sometime around 1990. Smallest blade I've ever hit and I've seen or hit plenty of blades from the 70's and 80's. If anyone has a picture of them I'd be eternally grateful.

Very nice blades and the 'champagne' finish was a bit special in it's day.

Where on earth did you find that picture? These are easily the smallest blades I've ever hit. I was playing a tournament in 97 and my playing partner was still using a set (and he absolutely pured them). I consider myself to be a half decent ballstriker but these were too much for me to handle.

I've only ever had my hands on a set of TP2000s once; and they were still a bit like Laura Palmer (wrapped in plastic) so I never got to whack any balls with them...

I had to Google that, I had no idea what you were talking about. Low and behold, the first picture on images is some woman from a show I've never seen, wrapped in plastic. How do you come up with this stuff?

 

I believe they were going to make 2000 sets (hence the name) but that actual figure was far less than that. Rarer than rocking horse sh*t.

80's Wilson staff blades, I remember hitting a 1 iron and the edge of the ball stuck out beyond the toe of the club.

I've actually been looking out for a set of TP2000s for years now - although God only knows who'd be able to refinish them to the original lustre if I found a set in decent nick.

 

An interesting aside for people who are very sad is that Sandy Lyle played what looked remarkably like a set of these when he won the World Matchplay in 1988. Very small heads, with the characteristic angled toe to the muscle which was unseen at the time in any regular models, save for the TN-87. They had the same minute head design and were stamped up with regular Mizuno stampings rather than the TP badging on the 2000s. The finish was also chrome rather than the champagne finish. I had a really good gorp into his bag that year and remember those irons vividly as they were literally something I'd never seen before.

 

I've never seen a set used by a pro, or by anyone on the course come to think of it.

I know you're a whippersnapper so I'll forgive you for not being aware of Twin Peaks, but, in a nutshell it's a TV series from the late 80s/early 90s that had a cult following at the time (and subsequently...) :yes: As a sort of tenuous link to golf, one of the main characters played golf (albeit badly by the looks of his swing) and the co-creator and co-producer Mark Frost is also the author of several highly-acclaimed golf-related books including The Greatest Game Ever Played.

Regarding the Wilson blades alluded to above, a friend played some Fluid Feels for years and the punchdot framing of the face was only just wide enough to do its' job as I recall. Tiny heads.

mizuno mp33's, titleist blades....there's a bunch of "oversized" blade models out right now.
