Shaft comparison: Aldila DVS vs. Matrix OZIK X-con

I have read the specs and know both are higher launching, low spin (I am using DVS on my Woods too), and wonder if anyone has tried BOTH and can compare them... any experience, and how do you like each?

I tested both. from my experience the tip on the DVS is much more active. I would compare it closer to the Altus from Matrix. The X-con had a better feel, distance, lower spin, and tighter dispersion I found. I tried to play a DVS in a 07' Burner TP and it turned it into a hook machine for myself. Not saying it isn't a good shaft but I'm a higher spin, faster tempo player and I personally couldn't get it to work.

Yeah, so is the lack of distance for the Rombax. I've never heard a good review on the Rombax W-series so I wasn't all that surprised. I think the Rombax Z and X series are much stronger performers

xCon 5 is an okay shaft. I would love to see some data with the TP series and the F6/F7M2 series.

I have both that I swap out in a couple I-Mix heads. DVS-60 and X-Con 5. I think your results would vary with let's say an X-Con 7 or DVS-80. However, in my on course testing I found the X-con to kick harder, launch higher and maybe a little further, but not much. It also feels great. Can't comment on spin because it's the rainy season and everything plugs anyway. However it is also more wild for me. A nice shot is real nice. A bad shot is off the course. I think this has more to do with the weight and kick than it being a bad shaft. A robot doesn't have a "bad shot" so the dispersion is tighter. The DVS feels smoother (not nicer but smoother, don't know how to describe it. Like it doesn't kick all at once like the x-con), is more consistent (for me) of hitting a nice draw, and launch is mid to high. But nothing super special. Just kind of a workhorse shaft. Note that for whatever reason the X-con worked better for me in the FT-5 and the DVS worked better in the FT-I. FT-5 + DVS = ugh and FT-I + X-Con = ugh. I am not sure why, but that was my experience. Maybe the DVS is a better MOI shaft.

 

In summary, both good shafts but very different from each other. You would have to try for yourself.
