How Does Flex Effect Spin Rate

Does shaft flex effect spin rate, how much?

I am curious as to thoughts or empirical data on how shaft flex effects spin rate? For a driver, given same shaft maufacturer and model, does and R spin more or less than S flex - I assume same for S compared to X flex?

Would same hold true for irons? Does a DG R300 spin more or less than DG S300 if same golfer and same clubhead?

A newbish question, but either not effective with Search or hasn't been directly asked...thanks to all in advance.

Generally speaking, yes, apples-to-apples, same model / weight / etc., the stiffer you go, the lower the spin & lower the launch. Same can be said for increasing weight.

Not to threadjack, but I want to make sure that I get things correct. Lets say that with the stiff flex shaft in my current driver my lm numbers are always around 3500. I know that is way too much, but would a change to an x flex shaft control some of that nasty spin? Thanks.

my simple understanding: a softer shaft would respond with more bend during the swing, which would result in more clubhead speed at the ball. more clubhead speed means more spin?

Isn't it forward bending of the shaft at impact what effects loft and spin? A softer shaft bends forward more at impact equaling more spin? Hence stiffer shafts bringing spin down within reason and stiff tip profiles like the WB, Z08 etc dishing out less spin due to less forward bending of the tip? The softer active tip of an NVS or PL Blue is the opposite i think.

Things that increase spin: softer shafts, lighter shafts, softer tip/lower kickpoint. The reverse will be true, i.e. a stiffer shaft will reduce spin.

 

As a general rule this tends to work but there are always exceptions, not just between different shafts but there are some oddities. Apparently Project X shafts will spin more when you go to too stiff a flex than when you are at the correct flex.

I SPIN MORE WHEN I MADE THE MOVE TO VERY STIFF SHAFTS, THE REASON BEING I MADE A CLEANER CONTACT WITH THE BALL. I'M NOW HITTING FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE BLADE WITH A SHARP DECENDING BLOW.

 

FLIGHT IS LOWER (WITH S400 COMPARED TO r300 I HAD BEFORE) BUT DOESNT MEAN ITS NOT SPINNING WITH IRONS.

 

THE DRIVER IS DIFFERENT AS THE SHAFT IS LONGER.

 

JUST MY EXPERIENCE GET SHAFTS THAT ALLOW YOU TO HIT THE BALL CLEANER (MAYBE NOT AS FAR, BUT SCORE NOT EGO COUNTS)
