Another Swing Problem, Looking for Advice

Hello

 

First a little background. I am in my mid forties and have been golfing all my life. When I played lots I was about a 10-11 handi. I have just discovered in the last 2 weeks Slicerfixer's Texarkana. I have read this awesome document 3 or 4 times already, been to the range 8 times in the last 2 weeks and had 2 rounds of golf. I know it will take time to make the change and will keep putting in the time and practice required.

 

Now for my problem. I have always had a quick swing. The problem is I get so quick at times everything falls apart. My angles collapse, my arms get WAY out of sync etc. It is from trying to kill the ball. The reason I love Slice's method it proved to me that I didn't have to kill the ball to get the distance.

 

If I keep doing Slice's drills will that be enough to finally get a more consistant tempo? Are there other drills that will help me SLOOOOW down. Are there any older players on Golfwrx that have made a major swing change and dropped from a teen handicap to a solid single digit.

In my 50's, have had the burden of a tempo issue all of my golfing life in an effort to smash that freakin' orb down the fairway.

 

Began slowing the tempo 5 years ago -- still working on it.

 

Remember these words - they might help: swing easy, hit hard (with the right hand). Hear the swoosh of the club at the bottom of the swing or beyond - ie build up the speed.

It's been my experience that golfers are constantly willing to try something different. I understand that you are trying to SLOW down your motion, but if you are having success with Slicefixer's document, why are you so eager to take on new advice? You, yourself mentioned in your post that Slicefixer proved to you that you 'don't have to kill the ball'!

 

One thing at a time! You have only been at it for two weeks! Give it some time!

I took the OP to say that he was falling off the wagon occasionally with a quickish tempo and wanted something easy to remind him to slow it down.

 

I like swing easy, hit hard because for me it translates to smooth (instead of slow). I want an even tempo that allows me to keep the club where it's supposed to be without going all over the place (generally collapsing writs send it past parallel)

 

When I practice chipping and pitching from 60 yards and in -- I'm saying out loud -- smooth, smooth, smooth, smooth. Of course, if slow, slow, slow does the trick.......

SwingMan's got it right. I am sticking with the rotational swing and know that swing changes takes time. I am just looking for another drill or suggestions on how to improve my tempo as I make this change. I have made swing changes in the past and my quick tempo has always been a problem no matter what swing I am attempting to make.

 

Think of it as adding something to my training as I am making this change.

I try to think of a medium waltz beat (1,2,3 - 1,2,3 - 1,2,3 - pow!) . On the first 2 sets, I establish the tempo in my head (good for getting all the swing thoughts out) and on the third; 1 begins backswing, 2 midway back, 3 top of backswing, then 4=pow! Let 'er go...

 

Granted I've played drums for over 35 yrs., so I do have somewhat a built-in metronome, which might be a good thing to establish your internal clock... But all my swings have the same tempo. I've compared video and my driver is the same as my 7i or my pw... Works good for putting, too.
