Paddy gets my votes with his 2 major wins, but the golf channel can't stop talking about Tiger and they feel he is still the POY. What if the roles were reversed and Tiger had 2 majors and Paddy had the great stretch that Tiger had, who would be voted in then? Without a doubt it would have been Tiger.

It's hard to reverse the roles: Can you ever imagine Tiger missing the cut in all the FedEx Playoff events?

(Harrington is in dead last place after the 1st day at the Deutsche Bank, and he missed the cut last week.) I think Harrington will win the vote, but his weak finish (if, in fact, he continues to play poorly) won't help his cause.

harrington - 13 events on the pga tour, 2 missed cuts, 2 wins(majors) not including the wins his best finish is a 3rd place finish and a 10th.

tiger - 7 events on the pga tour, 5 wins and a major, a second and a 5th to round out the other tournaments.

harrington won the 2 majors but is hardly dominant and wrothy of a no doubt POY. I would vot Tiger based on the fact that the 4 wins Tiger had were against stacked fields and he is always a presence. Paddy peaked 2wice at the right time and I think thats awesome but that one major is not worth the four tough tourneys and high finishes Tiger had, especially when you throw in his 2 missed cuts.

Scrutinizing it this way is eveidence of how tough it is to decide. I like both players alot but if I had a vote it would lean to Tiger, Paddy can win it but man show us somthin and dont miss another cut cuz that aint dominant!

I think Padraig deserves it more than Tiger, but I don't think he deserves it as much as other players. In the long run is PGA Player of the Year really that important? In my humble opinion golf is the game where the best player in the world is the individual who won the last tournament. I love Tiger, I really do, but I hear too many "shoulda, woulda, couldas" when his name comes up. He's injured. I'm sorry. He couldn't complete this season. Thus everyone else has a better chance of winning. This chance also involves PGA Player of the Year. Should he win it? No. He's out. Sorry. Unless he won every tourney and major he was in before he dropped out, it should go to someone else who has played the entire season. If it did go to Tiger I feel sorry for him. That would mean the Player of the Year title is a popularity contest instead of something meaningful. He would have to live with that knowing he won something he didn't earn.

well, Paddy has the PGA Player of the year pretty much locked up, based upon points earned. it would be interesting if he does not also win the PGA Tour Player of the Year, since it's a rare occurrence that two different players get those awards in a season. there is precedent for Paddy winning the PGA Tour Player of the Year--Mark O' Meara. Duval had a similar season the year O'Meara won, but it was lacking a major win (and of course, Tiger won his on a broken leg).

Money Leaders

1 1 Tiger Woods 6 $5,775,000

2 5 Vijay Singh 20 $5,192,531

3 2 Phil Mickelson 18 $4,661,075

4 3 Kenny Perry 23 $4,509,700

5 4 Padraig Harrington 13 $4,297,731

Fedex Cup Points

1 Tiger Woods 6 22,695

2 Kenny Perry 22 20,878

3 Phil Mickelson 17 18,241

4 Padraig Harrington 12 15,555

5 Anthony Kim 18 15,178

So Tiger plays less events, and still gets more Fedex cup points, and money, as well as winning 5 times with 1 major, Padraig has played 11 more events, less money, less Fedex Cup points, won 2 majors but no other PGA tour events. This is the PGA tour player of the year, not the Who won the most majors award, and even though he only played 6 events, he still had better standings in money and fedex cup points, so he gets my vote cause he did the best this year, doesnt matter how much he played

You would think Player of the Year would make the cut at the Barclay's and this week at Deutch Bank he is most likely will miss it again unless he shoots something good saturday. But seriously guys it's Tiger, he wouldn't miss cuts or play this bad in the "playoffs".

Should we just cancel the PGA tour all majors the Fed Ex until Tiger gets back?

Yes, this would probably be best.

No no no.

Don't cancel all the tours, but convert them to match plays until Tiger comes back.

1. Sponsors do not like match plays because there is more chance Tiger might not play on Sunday, but when he's not there, no problem.

2. Match plays get more attention from general audiences so it will raise the TV rate a little bit.

3. World ranking, money ranking, etc will not hurt.

Tiger is POY hands down. Not to take anything away from other golfers who had great years but Tiger won the most difficult major with a broken leg. This award is a no brainer. If it's not enough, add in his multiple victories. Think of Tiger's excruciating pain, adversity, highlight reel putts and scoring average.

I think the golf world is just shocked that someone MIGHT win POY having only completed half a year. His name is Tiger Woods. He's number one. He's the best by far. And that includes this year.

Who else, in 6 attempts, has 4 first place finishes including a broken legged major, a 2nd and a 5th?

Are we going to take it away from him because he didn't appear in the final 2 majors which HAD to be won by someone else due to his injury?? On paper, no one is even in his rear view mirror.

Someone said something in another thread along the lines of, "Would you give Kobe the MVP trophy if he averaged 45 points for just the first third of the season?'..." This of course is in reference to giving POY to Tiger for his stellar first part of the year... But that's not right AT ALL... What would be more appropriate is asking would you give Kobe the MVP trophy if he scored so many points in the first third of the season that his season average, averaging in 0 points for the rest of the year, was, let's say, 30 points?.. While he may not deserve it seeing that it is obviously a different sport and clearly a different overall scenario, that's the equivalent to what Tiger has done... Anyone following me on this? I think Padraig is great.. His work ethic is amazing.. But really think about all Tiger did in that little bit of time he played.. As some have mentioned, that's a career for some very solid golfers.. Also are the two majors Paddy won this year.. Oh, hell.. I don't know who should get it..
