Clubs you wish you never got rid of

Why do we do this to ourselves?

I just put a set of ping I3 blades back in play after about 5-6 years. I had gotten them when they first came out, and as I thought I was getting better and wanted to try new stuff, better yet what I thought was better stuff I ditched them. After the long layoff i purchased a set midly used off of ebay. I went out to hit them last night, and gained all the distance I had lost from the "better" stuff. I am not suggesting that these are the greatest clubs, or the gain in distance isn't from a mental thing of having the set I was most comfortable with back. I just wanted to see how many of us regret letting go of any club set or indvidual diriver, fairway wood, putter, or wedge for the next best thing that totally flopped. If your in this group, what was the club or clubs that you really wish you hadn't gotten rid of?

My Nike Forged 53* and 56* Wedges. They didn't spin a huge amount but just enough to hold greens. Man I miss those things, that is why I am excited for the VR wedges.

Nearly all the clubs I've ever played for any length of time are still stashed away under the stairs in our house.

 

That said, there are a few I wish I'd never gotten rid of:

 

A Mk I Taylor Made Bubble driver - the one with the grey head and a plain black shaft without all the bronzey/gold bits all over it. It was a great driver, but someone offered me a kings' ransom for it and I sold it to them.

 

A set of Mizuno TP19 irons. I got them from someone when I fell out with the Eye 2s I tried for a while. I then bought some MP14s and preferred them, foolishly selling the TP19s.

 

A pair of Cleveland 588 Gunmetal wedges. Not that they were particularly brilliant (I prefer RTGs), but in 9/10 condition I sold them to a work colleague for the then bargain price of 40 quid the pair and the sod never paid me for them.

 

I also had a pair of putters (a steel B60 and a My Day) that were on loan from friends. I putted the lights out with them as a teenager (including an amateur course record with the latter) but had to give them both back eventually. I should have invented a story about that My Day being stolen... :man_in_love:

Scotty cameron circa 62, the blue gun one with a custom grip and cover. Traded it in for a NC GM2 then went back next day to try and re buy it but it was gone. Was gutted cos it was so nice but i had a momentary lapse. Bought a new circa but didnt like the charcoal finish so that went as well. Also my mizuno mp 600 speeder 757. I dont regret selling it but i do regret getting the 757 in S rather than X. If i had gone with the X it would still be in the bag now. Was such a nice stick!

I've had a May-December romance with my 986 Blades for over a dozen years. I buy them, then sell them, then buy another set. The current set in my bag is my sixth set of heads.

Had a Nike Ignite 410 with a Grafalloy Comp NT shaft in it. Hit absolute bombs with the thing. Took me forever to find another driver that I hit as well.

 

Vokey Raw 60°. My first non-knockoff club ever. Not too special on full shots but was awesome around the green. Got it for free too!

 

Yes! Tracey. 34" was a bit short for my height, but man did I make some putts with it. Would probably keep as a backup putter if I still had it.

several sets of eye 2's, I traded or sold over the years. I think I may have finally wised up. I am going to keep my J33R 460 and my G10 irons. I may and probably will purchase other drivers and irons, but will never get rid of these.

My MP32s that I Purchased 2 months after they were introduced. Absolutely loved them and only used them like 5 to 8 rounds. Purest set I've ever owned. I just couldn't let them sit in the basement while I gamed the 60s.

TM R7 TP 13* 3wd (spoon). Had 12 grams weights in that baby and it would kill it. Don't know what possessed me to move on....bad decision.

 

Also wish I had my Ping Isopur Anser 2 back. It isn't worth anything now, but it was the first "big name" club I bought. It holds a place in my heart.

I gave it to a buddy of mine and wish I never ever did it.

The first Ping G5 driver I owned. Sold it, wished I had it back and bought another. For whatever reason I haven't quite been able to hit this one as well. Had my first 300yd drive with that thing.

It was 2-3 years ago and I was lazy and left my clubs in the car- figured I'd hit up the chipping green before work the next day . . . my car was stolen and the clubs I wish I still had-

Those were the sweetest irons I've ever owned/struck/used/heard, etc. I also lost my first golf bag too- the handle strap had ripped and I had it riveted at a luggage repair shop . . . it was CUSTOM! hahaha.

 

Don't know why I haven't tried to recapture the magic by rebuilding those irons . . . I know- the shafts are $400 installed! And I could never find another set of mint/near mint 50th Anniversary Blades for cheap enough . . . only paid $200 shipped for those with the Nippons . . .

Cleveland Launcher 06 non-comp 15*. It was the most solid 3 wood I have ever hit. Every time I go to the shop, I still check the used bin for one but have yet to be successful. Same with ebay.

Mine was the Bettinardi BB-43. Saw shat they were going for on ebay about 3-4 years ago, and figured it was time to cash out. Now I can't seem to sniff the hole with anything else, and they have gone up significantly in value since then... what a shame. The only club I ever regretted selling.

I regret selling my first Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Newport 2. I went thru several other Camerons, and sitll use a Studio Stainless Newport 2 as my gamer. I had this Mid-slant refinished by the Studio (and eventually sold it), but I was a dufus for selling that first ProPlatinum.
