Lee Westwood May Miss The Ryder Cup

Still Suffering With Tonsillitis

The only article's I could find are related to him missing last weekends Omega European Masters due to a bout of tinosillitis but according to Sky Sports News and the Guardian, there's now a chance he could miss the Ryder Cup.

Anyone else heard this? Any thoughts?

Losing Lee would be a big blow but (thinking ahead) his absence could see the return of Darren Clarke.

I would hope he does not miss it. I like watching him play. I guess if he does then Darren would be the logical choice. But I thought he was a logical choice last time and look where that got him.

Westwood has been having a great year, that would be quite a loss for the Euros...but of course bringing Darren Clarke in wouldn't hurt them too much, he usually is tough in the Cup.

It would take something really bad for Westwood to miss the Ryder Cup,he just loves it.

Last time he played the Singles with a temp of neally 100,but that didnt stop him winning.

It would have to be serious for him to miss it. My finger's are crossed that he's playing, I guess we'll find out soon enough.

You may be right mate. Someone told me that Faldo would get a free pick because the teams have already been decided but others say that it would be the next in line that gets to play. In which case, that'd be Kaymer.

Can't we ask Westwood to go out for a night with Poulter, get drunk, end up in a gay bar, kiss Poulter passionately so he gets infected, find a good physician so Westwoord gets better in time, but Poulter will have to drop out and Darren would still be able to play ...

It would be Kaymer who would take the place as Westwood qualified as opposed to getting picked and Kaymer is the next player on the list. There's an article on the BBC Wesbite which says the same.

 

Although having said that, there is no way that Westwood misses the matches. I'm sure that he has just taken this week off just to make sure that he is feeling right for next week. Just a thought though, this seems to happen to Westwood a lot you would think by now that he would have considered getting his tonsils out.

you would hope lee would be fit to play but we are lucky enough to have darren to step up un like the usa who have the weakest team ever.

Absolutely!

 

Westy will be ok; he's a bit of a hypochondriac, there's always something wrong with him. Of course there's a chance that someone will get injured, or come down with some illnes or other. Kaymer as "Guest", (ie travelling reserve even though he's denying it) would be well placed to step in

Lee will be fine, having Kaymer there is sensible on Faldo's part.... But looking at the Storm that hit Valhalla today, there could be problem's getting stuff fixed in time.... some stands/bleachers have been 'blown away'

That interview was done almost a week ago, before the start of the Mercedes-Benz. Not sure what the absolute latest news is, but hopefully he'll be fit and ready to go

 

Edit: He played a practice round yesterday, so he seems to have recovered
