Titleist Website Updated (909s, etc) Merged

Stupid question time:

I own the AP1 irons and this actually started my foray into Titleist product (beyond the balls). If you're looking for a Titleist driver from this new range that suites the GI enhancement of the AP1 irons, which driver is best suited to that?

I'm tired of massive headed behemoth drivers. And I wanted to continue with Titleist product in '09 since I have really enjoyed the AP1's. Any suggestions?

The drivers look amazing. I am thinking if none of these work for 'average joe' I'll give the new Cobra's a shot.

Good to see that the loft and bounce options list for the Vokey wedges has been expanded - as have the available finishes.

Full marks. Even if the placement of the stampings is a bit goofy on the new ones.

Looks like every shaft other than the made for Titleist shafts have an upcharge.

http://www.titleist.com/images/products/pdfs/909D3.pdf

True, but if you go to: http://www.titleist.com/golfclubs/shafts_g...fts/default.asp it states that there's no upcharge on a whole load of shafts. The 'brochure' section and 'shafts' link on the product page are giving out different info??

As rlynham stated earlier in the thread... the "shafts" link on the product page is still the 2007-2008 shaft options that were used for the 907 series... The "brochure" section contains the 2009 shaft options for the 909s... Im sure the "shafts" link on the product page will be updated when the new products come out and the 907s are gone...

Thanks for the link.

Weird that they don't list the Voodoo line in the product area.

Golf Pride now offers a .620 Tour Velvet grip, so I guess this is how you get a standard grip size on these shafts.

Titleist just told me that on the Aldila and Diamana .625 shafts they will be putting the new Golf Pride .620 grip on them. Makes sense. That would be the only way to get a standard grip size.

The manufacturers now seem to all put .580 grips on .600 shafts, which makes them slightly oversized. This must be the new standard.

I'm not sure the for Titleist shafts are as bad as some people make out. I know a few very good players who love there's. Apparently the for Titleist BlueBoard is designed to play in the Bore Through hosel the same as a normal BlueBoard does in a normal Hosel. Plus the materials used not being as good quality? Why would the Manafacturer put there good names on a sub standard shaft? Sure Titleist get them cheaper becuase they'll buy a huge amount of shafts in one order and normally the more you buy the cheaper each single unit works out.

I'm loving the new Vokeys can see a new SM Gap wedge coming my way  The new Studio Selects look stunning as well.

So would be safe to say that the drivers with be $100 less than MSPR on the website? So $350 for the D2 and D3?

How about the upcharge for a real Voodoo? Say a SVS6 in a D2 and a SVS7 in a fairway.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I would venture to to say that the will have a retail price of $399 for the D2 and the D3 and more for the Comp. The 907 series was $399 retail when it was released, so I don't see Titleist dropping their prices this year. In fact I believe that the 905R was $399 as well when it was released. Wholsale cost on the 905R was $300 and the 907 was $275, but they were both listed retail for $399. I would love to see Titleist take the D2 or the D3 and have them at $299 retail like most other OEMs, but that won't happen I'm sure. One thing going for Titleist is the vast amounts of shaft options available. I really think that this is where they separate themselves from the other OEMs.

I hate to keep on, but i was really looking forward to this release from Titleist. The 909 series has been talked about for months on the forum and to see Titleist putting upcharges on shafts which have been on the market for years and without upcharge on the 905 and 907 series, has put a real downer on the whole launch for me.

The marketing guys at Titleist need their heads tested - you release a product and market heavily the fitting aspect (the 909 will have interchangeable shafts for fitting) and then charge people 50 - 150 dollars on top of the MRP, that's plain crazy!!

With the new shafts out i.e rombax, voodoo, axiv core i would have thought that VS proto's, pro95's and v2's would be considered as 'old'stock by Titleist and happily shifted with no upcharge.

Anyway my rant is over, sure there are those that disagree, but i'm p****d off!!

I saw and hit the entire new titleist line yesterday.... Let's just say they're gonna sell ALOT of clubs... Putter/drivers/wedges/fairways look fantastic... I was anxious to try the 909D3 but to tell you the truth I liked the D2 and the COMP as well.. I expected the COMP to be a little shut but all the drivers set up BEAUTIFULLY and sit square to open.....

They also FEEL fantastic, ALL of them....... takes me back to my 983 days....

First of all, Geaux Tigers! Second, I have read that the 909 drivers will be fit utilizing an interchangeable shaft system. If so, does anyone know which shafts will be made available for fitting? I would imagine the "Made for" shafts would be included in any "cart" like system they have for their current iron line (which I am interested to try out, as I am very seriously eyeing a set of Ap2s). Is their any chance they might include some of their other shaft offerings, e.g. the non "Made for" diamana or voodoo? Paying a few extra bones for these shafts would not be a big deal for me if I felt they fit me better than the stock offerings. However, I am not interested in dropping an extra buck-fifty for a shaft upgrade that might not even prove to help my driving.

Sorry for the long post but I guess no one forced you to read it. Thanks for the help.

I think its a safe bet that the rombax will be upcharged

wait for the japanese market version of the 909, the 907 is fitted with diamana blue 73 and rombax 7X07 (both of them are real) as standard in Japan. Go check out titleist's Japan website

I was thinking the same. Why would Mitsubishi or Aldila let Titleist use it's name and product brand on a substandard shaft? It just wouldn't make sense if it was not up to a similar quality/performance level.

The new line looks great, just wish they offered all the wedge options for lefties :-(

Most people can't tell the difference... and the people that do are willing to buy the real thing for a higher price. Granted the Titleist shafts aren't as bad as some of the shafts that TM has put out, its still not the same thing. The imports are held to a much higher standard than the "made for" shafts.

I am somewhat on the other side of the fence with this since I am a retailer, but I can see why Titleist was forced to go this route. No other manufacturer offers anything other then a couple shafts as stock options and everything else is upcharge...Because of this Titleist was eating the cost of all the other shafts. They wanted to keep the price range competitive without loosing normal margins so instead of increasing the regular price of the driver and keeping the aftermarket shaft options at no upcharge...Instead they decided to offer a few "Stock" shafts that will satisfy 90% of the golfing public and the 10% that still want different shaft options they are still available.

Besides they could have pulled the upgrade shaft options completely and then you would have had to pay retail for a head and shaft you don't want then $300 for an aftermarket shaft that you could have gotten for a $150 upcharge through Titleist.

When you look at it like that it does seem so bad...GLASS HALF FULL GUY SIGNING OFF!

Guys, I'm wondering if one of you would be able to... 'qualify' who the DComp might be geared towards as opposed to the D2?

Differences I'm aware of:

Dcomp: Ozik Matrix shaft (hit this on the new R7 limited... not sure if it's really a low spin shaft like the Proto By You)

D2: Voodoo/Dianama Blue (Blue is a lower trajectory shaft? Right?)

Dcomp: Composite of course. Higher launch/mid spin

D2: Mid launch/mid Spin.

And I guess shaft size. I think the D3 might be for someone with a lot more club head speed then me. I swing about 100-105.

Anything I'm missing? Anyone have opinions on that Ozik Shaft???

I curious too! I'm wondering what i would see between a 9.5* Dcomp Vs. a 10.5* D2 with the same shaft? i can't wait for the fitting carts to fill up.

I completely agree with some aspects of your post. I have no problem paying, and indeed expect to pay an upcharge for some of the latest and advanced shafts i.e. Diamana, Voodoo, Rombax, Axiv Core

BUT.......

I'm a little miffed about having to pay upcharges for the following, all of which have been provided without upcharge in the past:

- Pro95 - a discontinued fujikura shaft, which is 6 years old and which has been offered from the 983 series (maybe even earlier). Titleist must have a massive inventory of this shaft given that it's been discontinued.

- UST V2 65 - again a few years old now, can be bought for peanuts at retail, so Titleist must be paying a very low price given the volume that they hold.

- Aldila NV - now a 'grandad' of shafts, 6 years old, again i'd be surprised if Titleist are paying more than 10-15 bucks for this shaft given the volumes that they hold and have sold in recent years.

- Graphite Design YS-6 - has been offered as a stock shaft in the last three models 983,905 and 907 so again why the upcharge, Titleist per unit cost would probably again only be $10-$20 per shaft.

Now i'm all for companies making profit, especially in these hard times, but two of Titleist's new releases are all Titanium with a relatively high MSRP. Given this, I would have anticipated some of the older stock shafts to be absorbed and offered at no extra charge.
