Let us know if the finish on the irons holds up better than on the wedge shafts.

Hi xxio,

I find your comment interesting, as virtually every KBS Tour Black Nickel wedge shaft has been sold through our company, and to date we have not had one returned for any reason let alone the finish not holding up.

To explain this.... you guys may not realize but chrome is actually clear in color... the nickel underneath gives your shafts the color. So when you get a shaft that is "smoked chrome" or something like that, then you may have issues with the finish getting damaged.

With KBS Tours, you have to damage both the chrome and the nickel underneath to damage the color.

The KBS Black Nickel sets are manufactured the same way, and I seriously doubt anyone will have any issues with the finish of these shafts.

I do hope this explains how unique this finish is.

I have 5 wedges with the Black Nickel and have not had any issues.

Can't wait to get my hands on the BN shafts for my raw Shinagawa Heads. Just might be one of the best looking set ups ever... Hope to be posting pictures soon.

How much will a set run, and who will be stocking them? It's looking like it is between these and the Aerotech Steel Fiber Shafts.

I'm a little hesitant as I was playing some DGS400 Black Chrome Shafts in my wedges, and they weren't very durable. Scratched and Nicked easily just in the bag.

The ones I saw were Jick's.

I was personally waiting for him to give his feedback on durability before buying some of my own. Ijust saw them last week since the first time he installed them about 5 weeks ago. That would probably put him at 12-14 rounds with them.

They look okay from about 10-15 feet but when you are holding the shaft you can tell that the color has worn off in some areas. It looks like splotches.

I will try to ask him to post pics.

Hi Chris,

You really can't compare between a graphite and a steel shaft, in terms of playablity they are both excellent shafts but very different. I think you have to decide on the material first then test shafts of the same material.

Honestly, hey....I am a graphite guy (ACCRA is what I do!) and we make kick Word not allowed graphite iron shafts used by Champions and LPGA Tour players.....but if a guy likes steel, comparing graphite is so different. This happens the other way too.....graphite guys will seldom want to go back to steel.

Also, don't worry about the finish of the KBS Tour.....if you get them through any good club fitter, they are fully warranted, and like I said earlier....this is not a powder coat or a stained chrome...this is under the chrome.....so you have to wear through the chrome to damage the finish.

All and all.....you won't go wrong with Aerotech or KBS Tour!

Hi Joe,

Yes, the "sets" of KBS Tour Black Nickel (3-PW) are a limited edition product, driven from the demand of the wedge shafts by Tour players and our club fitters. There are only about 200 sets in existance, and i think Joe has a bunch of them! I can tell you that as far as I know, all 200 sets were pre booked and all sold to Accra dealers. we are hoping to free up another 10-20 sets from over runs...but nothing confirmed at this point.

They are only available in R, S , & X flexes in taper tip.

The Black Nickel Wedge shafts are an "in line" product and are different than the standard KBS Tour wedge shaft and should produce a slight lower initial launch than the silver wedge.

Hope that helps,

gbr

how is the black nickel version different in feel and performance to the regular kbs tour?

The black nickel version, as GR mentioned, is a dedicated wedge shaft with a lower first step. Since it's designed to maintain flex in heads heavier than 9i, wedges will feel slightly firmer and fly a bit lower. With conventional stiff tip shafts, this can result in boardy feeling wedges but the KB is far from a conventional shaft.

While I love the idea of smoked or black nickel shafts (KBS or other) and I do hope that these are different than other attempts at this I have my reservations that they will be durable enough to maintain a quality appearance over time. So the real question is if we drop the big bcks on these and this issue does occur what will the warranty policy be? Thanks guys; on paper these look awesome! BB

I have been playing the Black Nickel wedge shafts in my PW, SW, LW since mid summer (not sure how many rounds) with a lot of in and out of the bag range time in a bag with no dividers. Mine still look pristine. I was interested to see the wear pictures that XXIO posted. Certainly not my experience.

On the playability side, I love them.

xxio,

Looks interesting, as I said that will be the first 2 shafts we've ever had returned! Have "your buddy" bring them back to the club fitter that put them in for him... and if they are worn by "natural" causes, we will replace them immediately. As I said, he has to wear through the chrome to "wear out" the black.

I look forward to seeing those, to see if that is a "wear" mark or what? It looks like some kind of discoloration, not sure how a shaft "wears" that much just under the grip. I promise to all those hear, to report back, once we receive them.

I wish they were mine so I could return them. We are in the Philippines so the stock of KBS shafts here are very limited.

"My buddy" couldn't care less about the wear. He just wanted to try them out. The wear is all near the head. Nothing near the grip. They are obviously from bag rubs and from taking the club in and out of the bag.
