I'm just the opposite - my short game stinks for my handicap. My scoring average is 79 after 14 rounds this year from the blues (back tees at my course). But that is only 6200 yards (PAR 70) 70.9/126

I'm in, probably a 20+ handicap (this will be the first year I keep track). April or May lets all get something together and get out there. Depending on the weather, I might get a chance to play the Golf Club of Kansas next weekend. I am headed up there for my first professional fitting at GolfMD.

Last time I played Cottonwood (was a long time ago), It was 33 degrees and 30 mph wind. I shot a 92 (from the whites!). Anyway, I just like to be out there. Funky, you ever played Sand Creek? It's fairly challenging too.

I am a 9 but Cottonwood brings out the worst in me. Heck, I'm old. But who cares. It would be great just to get out of this stinky, sloppy, cold, yuck we have been suffering through. Sandcreek is a great course and I'd be happy to meet all of you. Let's look for a decent day and make a great afternoon out of it. I'll shoot some pictures and be sure that we get a little space for our efforts.

That 79 at Turkey not bad all it takes is two bad tee balls and score gone. Just think of #5 hit good shot and hitting 3 because of a bad bounce.

I agree. #5 is the hardest hole at the course. Forced layup par 4, 400 yards usually playing into the wind.

Shot a 75 this year for my best and 83 as my worst.

It just keeps coming...snowed on my way into work today and then it stopped. Went out for lunch and it was snowing again! Damn this flat state sometimes, its mucky and slushy and gross, not to mention the general attitude about winter driving in Wichita seems to involve just white knuckling it and causing mayhem and chaos.

That's true - but I seldom score better on that hole carrying the water. Easier just to lay up and hit an 8 iron into the green.

I was reading about some guys getting a golfwrx spring outing going in Michigan for whoever wants to come and play 36 one day with a bunch of side bets and things. I just thought maybe we could do this around here for us at Cottonwood Hills sometime. I could definitely make the drive from Oklahoma and there are a few others on here from around this area.

I called Cottonwood this morning and got a recording announcing the closing of the course for the winter. They offered no opening date for the course except to say that it would reopen sometime in the Spring. I suggest that we plan a date for the get together and as Cottonwood is iffy, use Sandcreek as an alternate.

There are no KGA Senior Series events between May 12-25 inclusive. I wonder if some time within that window might be a good time to plan an outing?

I live in Hutchinson and I can virtually guarantee you that Cottonwood Hills will NOT be opening this year. They had a sign across the entrance that they would be open on April 15th. I've been by there twice since then and the chain is still across the drive and the sign is nowhere to be found. I heard recently that the electricity has been turned off (no watering) and all the equipment (carts, mowers, etc.) has been repossesed. CH has always been involved in our city tournaments. This year, they are not. I hate to say it, but I don't think there is any way this gem will survive. They are at a crossroads right now. I was told by someone very close to the course that if the greens are not mowed in the next 10-15 days, they will be beyond repair! We are all praying for a miracle, but not sure it is going to happen.

My greatest fear is that even if there is a short term solution found to keep CH open this year, the geographical problems are insoluable. The course is too far away from Wichita and too close to Prairre Dunes. It should never have been built where it is with the ownership it had(has). The only hope (and that is problematic at best) is for real money to buy it and promote it as a resort. Good luck.

I am very afraid that Cottonwood is gone for quite a while.
