I did it myself. Glass bead blast then a light pass over with a stainless steel dremel brush to give it a bit more of a silver, smoother finish.

Does anyone know if it’s still possible to get a B-17 made? I’ve been rolling mine with the pipe neck for most of this year, and I love it, but the guy who sold it to me apparently did so due to some financial troubles, and it had some personal significance to him, and there’s a couple things about it that I wouldn’t mind tweaking, so I’m interested in having a new one made for me, so I can sell mine back to the original owner. I would probably plan to go to Byron’s shop on an upcoming trip to L.A. if I were to do this.

Byron is moving or has recently moved to Georgia. He’ll no longer be using the HB shop.

 

I assume the B17 is still available. It’s a pretty recent addition to the line up.

B-17 in brushed mystic finish, long pipe neck, pretty minimal stamping. I'll definitely post pics once it's done

The Byron Morgan long pipe necks always look amazing. Will yours be center, heel, or somewhere in between shaft orientation ?

It'll be on the heel -- I'm having this built pretty close to the specs of my current putter, except more upright (73* lie). The one I have now is pretty close to face balanced.

Yes, it's a full shaft. I've seen pictures on Byron's website and other places of B-17s that have softened/rounded edges on the back and the heel and toe, but the one I have is very rectangular and squared off when viewed from address, and I find that is helpful with alignment.

I agree. Byron's heads such as DH89, 615, B17 are typically designed/milled to have relatively square lines and edges, which I believe does help with alignment.

After owning somewhere around 10 second-hand Byron putters, I finally went ahead and ordered one just the way I wanted it, and it turned out beautifully. It took about 11 weeks from when I placed the order, but it was worth the wait!

Anyone know what kind of milling this is (I know it's kind of hard to see on the black), maybe fly milling? Can the depth of the fly mill be specified? I don't want it to deep.

Ultra fine fly mill. I've had a couple putters from BM done this way and they each looked slightly different. I'm sure the setup, speed, depth of pass, fly mill bit, and human factor really creates a distinctive pattern that varies from putter to putter. They aren't drastically different mind you, but each had it's own unique pattern so to speak.

I love the look of this putter but I just cannot get use to the feel and sound of it, doesn't suit me at all.

I'm not 100% sure I got this second hand so I'm going off of the pics on Byron's site. It could also possibly be Glass Blast or Cole Star but hard to tell.

 

It may be a blasted type finish as I seem to draw to bead or glass blasted putters. All I know is that the finish is super nice.

Byron's carbon putter finishes are oil can, black oxide, blue oil (heat treatment) and he formerly offered copper plate.

Byron's stainless head finishes are glass blast, polished, brushed, mystic (pvd ), blue oil (heat treatment), deep water (black pvd which I am not sure he still offers).

If you have a gray or silver colored Byron putter it is a stainless steel head , not carbon steel.

Thanks for the clarification, I assumed carbon due to some minor rusting in the cavity which I'm not sure why is there now.
