Just saw the news on his Instagram page. I’m super bummed to hear it.

I was introduced to Byron on Putter Talk and went down the custom boutique putter road because of this site. I always wanted to get his Bombora blade but never did. I remember a guy named Eddy who had a number of his great putters who acted as somewhat of a liaison.  He was one of the greats in the boutique putter business and most of his peer group with the exception of Gene Nead - continue to make great putters today (LaMont, Mills, Lajosi and Lumpy)

A few years back I made the mistake of selling my Byron Morgan GSS from 303 milled. From my understanding he made only 20 rh and 5 lh. 
 

I figure one day I would get Byron to make me my own custom gss. Well life happens and before you know it Byron is no longer here. The same 303 GSS model recently showed up on the bay and I’m thankful to have this one back. The owner said he never gamed it. I’ll let it sit there till my child is ready to putt. I’ve owned multiple circle t’s and Byron’s but this was probably my favorite. The feel is so good while sitting perfectly for me.   RIP Byron.

Does anyone here have insights on the "029X Copper" pls (the model with sound slot)? eg weight of putter head, desirability, etc? 

Would ~US$260 be a fair purchase price, in this condition?

 

 Saw on another Byron thread that the SS model for the "029" is approx 365grams ie slightly heavier than "normal" and was mainly sold in Japan?

Copper plated carbon = my guess too … but not 100% sure hence the question I posted here earlier today

Byron made a few TCB models back in the day.  Not sure on this one though.

Pretty sure it is but you can check it with a magnet. If the magnet sticks it’s copper plated (carbon), if the magnet isn’t attracted to it it’s a tcb (copper billet)

thanks @Jace_bkr ... good suggestion.  i've just tried it with some super-strong magnets ... and there was no magnetic attraction whatsoever to this Byron 029X Copper.

 

(the magnets did stick furiously to my Ken Giannini carbon putter & were a struggle to pull apart!)

sounds like you hit a home run and snagged a tcb for $260

Byron was a friend for over 25 years, yet I never shook his hand or sat down and had a beer.  I found some random photos and will post more of them soon, here for you guys to see.  These came after the split between John Ortega and Byron.  Long story, but Byron treated me very right on this package of putters.

Byron was one of the very best people in the golf industry.  For those of us who can call him friend we are truly blessed.  LaMont, you're also one of the terrific people in golf.

First time posting pics of this putter.  I have had this sitting in a staff bag in the closet for years.  This is the only putter I have ever seen Byron make with a round pipe neck, and a welded hosel cup on top.  It also has what Byron called the "Flying W" face milling.  This one definitely has some unique features.

Definitely unique.  I've never seen either of those characteristics before.  Wow - a slant neck made with a pipe rather than a bar (rincon)...  Is that a 615 head, which is what it looks like.

Hi Frank,

This was made back in the 006 days.  This head has the "ears" in the cavity, where the 615 had an oval cavity.  Its really a cool flatstick!

Just bought this.  Obviously beat up but what intrigued me was the rarer Dale Head 2 as well as what appeared to be milling marks on the whole head rather than just the face.  Anyone know if they did full milling on any of these?

Emailed John Ortega.  He confirmed this is a fully milled putter.  Said it was the first prototype they did of this kind.  It is very light, about 312 g.  Here are pics from what I got back from BOS.  You can see the large amount of lead tape on the bottom.
