This is the one that got me hooked. The specs are not exactly what I want but close enough. Just needs to be one more degree flat.

Funny coincidence Mav, I was just talking about this same putter 2 minutes ago in another thread and saying how none of my other putters can put it out of the bag at present!

The specs on the sole don't half look cool also huh! :-)

Even though it is one degree flatter than my preference I still putt better with it than any other except this one. I could keep the two Byron Morgans I currently have and get rid of a few I never use. I plan on visiting Byron in the coming months and probably will get another, maybe a tricked out 612. Thanks! :-)

89 oil can

Beautiful - custom order? Or a great pickup?

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Clean 615 I just picked up.

If you ever want to move that on, can you please keep me in mind?

Looks like it's for sale now.

Can someone explain to me why Byron would drop the bombora? Such a classic design. Tried to order one and was told could only get the b17 version which has the cavity which to me, destroys the lines of the putter. Very disappointed to say the least. Not sure how a putter company can call themselves. Ustom when you can't get what you want. Now I'm stuck searching the used market, which isn't easy.

After going through 4 Byrons (89, 006, 612 & 8812), I have finally found "the one." I purchased this on BST from a great member a couple of months ago and never looked back. I love everything about this stick, even the SuperStroke CB. Oddly enough it's not a plumber's neck since that is what I normally gravitate towards.

Photo credit to HeadonaStick. I've tried to take some good pics of the putter, but all of his are much better.

Anyone know what finish this is?

You do know that's its no a "company"? It is ONE person operation? EVERY putter is hand shaped , shafted and griped by him. He has to maintain a balance of new-classic offerings, so maybe the bombara was not a good enough design to warrant ordering another batch from the CNC company.

My guess is that it just wasn't a model that was worth keeping around, just not enough orders for it. If so, no reason to keep it around. How many OEM's have an AP2 model, a model that you can year in and year out that people want like the DH89 that's Byron's AP2. So I can see him not wanting to keep a product that the majority of your customer base is just not feeling.

The 006 was one of the best and most popular heads Byron made, and even that was discontinued. The 615 is a HUGE downgrade from the 006 in my opinion.

I agree the 006 was by far the best looking Anser 2 head Byron's made IMHO too. I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of a solid copper "maker's proof" #4/5, 006

Also I liked the look of the Channel Island but that's long gone too i believe.

Not sure how you can be so critical... and closed minded.

  1. It's a one man show, and he made a business decision.
  2. If everyone complaining about a model going away would've just ordered one in the first place, there would've been more demand and maybe the model wouldn't have been discontinued (don't know what you have until it's gone, maybe?).
  3. Proofread for goodness sake.
  4. You can get what you want... straight from Byron. Just ask him for a quote on a hand-made Bombora.

For those who feel the same about the 006 (it really was a great head)... I'd be surprised if he wasn't up to the challenge of doing a hand-made one of those, too.

It may be expensive, but you can get what you want.

Mikey's second point nailed it. There's a reason the 89 has been around for so long while other models (CI, 8812, 711, 006...etc) are no longer produced. Yes, some are available in tweaked/updated variations, but to the best of my knowledge the 89 is the longest lasting continuous model since Byron went solo.

I was at his shop last week. On a work bench, he lays out order forms... on top of those order forms he sets the head blank that will be used for that order.

The 612 is gorgeous.

The 615 is about as close as you can get to Rickie Fowler's and Tiger Wood's putter.

The B-17 is a highly anticipated release with multiple hand shaping options.

Anyone would be lucky to own any of those putters... but over half of the blanks on the bench were DH89s.

Wallets speak louder than keyboards.

It's just something about the heel of the 006 that I think looks better than every iteration released after. The newer releases heel seemed shorter and more upright of angle vs the 006 longer and more horizontal angle (hope that makes sense...?). Who knows maybe the newer heel shaping and size centers the CG better, but for some reason the 006 just had perfect lines IMHO.

Hmm....wonder if he still has it? Did it have a last name engraved in the cavity?

I always planned on ordering a Bombora and just never got around to it before the redesign. While I like that the newer B-17 is a bit wider than it's predecessor, I do feel the Bombora with no pocket looked much better. Set it apart from all his other current options that all have pockets, i.e DH89, 612, 615.

Not sure if Byron has any DaKine heads left. Those had no pocket milled out, but it was noticeably shorter heel to toe than the Bombora/B-17.

I believe the DaKines are gone--checked a few months back.
