John Daly Makes Headlines - MERGED

True, they were both wrong. But feeling that Daly was in any way justified in smashing the camera? No way.

All other players would have called security and had the fan/camera removed by them. Since when do players start doing other people's jobs on the course? You call an official and have it dealt with.

I suppose if Daly finds a blade of grass out of place he'll grab a golf cart, drive back to the greenskeeper's shed, and start up a mower?

Bottom line is he blew his top because he is frustrated by his performance. His attitude, demeanor, and body language all go against success, as some other spectators in this thread have noted.

How can anyone defend this. If it was maybe like his first offense it would be one thing maybe even his second or third but come on. Now I like the guy and still do and I am not here to hate on him. I think he is great for the game but he needs to get some help. The guy should not have had the camera but that doesn't give him the right to smash it. Two wrongs don't make a right which is something they teach you in like first grade. If someone cuts you off while driving that doesn't give you the right to smash into them just because your P'ed off. The other thing, which I don't know how much this is worth Hawkins on the Golf Channel last night said that a lot of his insider info says JD is working towards killing himself if he keeps up his behavior. Get some help man and make better decisions. You make your bed and now you have to lay in it. Clean up your life make better decisions and show the talent you have. He keeps blaming his luck, he says he has bad luck, well he has made his own bad luck. Harmon was right. Pick yourself up clean up and show how good you really are.

So, Tiger Woods caddy going over and threating a guy is okay, or Tiger cursing at some one who took a photo in his back swing in front of a bunch of kids is okay...If Tiger would have broke the camera every one would be singing a different tune IMO.

Just what the world needs another Tiger hater, grow up......

Just what the world needs, another Tiger worshipper. Grow up.

First commandment. Thou shalt not criticize the Tiger.

this is probably one of the most idiotic comments I have ever heard

Steve Williams was wrong for his reaction and so was Daly. Plain and simple.

Interesting thread, from Daly to CLegg and then Tiger. Just finished big Johns book "My Life in and out of the rough". Big John has some serious problems for a professioinal golfer. In saying that he's incredibly talented. I guess if I were having a day like that, I would have wanted to smash the camera, but most likely restrained myself.

With all of his problems, he still seems to come around every now and then and display the talent that he's worthy of.

A real shame.

The guy broke the rules I am glad his camera got smashed. The only problem is the caddy should have done it for John. A good caddy would take one for the team and protect his players image(in John's case not much left). Most times at tournments if someone is making noise in the crowd it is the caddy that asks them to be quiet not the player. Camera smashing should also be in their job description.

I can't believe he smashed the guys camera either . . . the way Daly was hitting he could have easily just shanked the next shot into the guy and no one whould have assumed anything. :)

Bad form even if I think the the guy had it coming. This was just the last of many in the face flash pictures he took of Daly but one of the 2 is supposed to be a professional.

I can't believe any of you are defending Daly's actions, I used to be a huge Daly fan and was cheering him on at the last tournament he played decent at (Buick), but come on, the spectator was WRONG, but you can't smash a guys camera into a tree!!! There really is no debating that, you just can not do that. You are supposed to be a role model, role models don't take a fan's camera and smash into the tree.

I wouldnt be judging Daily before we get ALL the details to the story.

I frankly don't give two hoots what the details are. You do not take a camera out of a spectators hand PERIOD. That is what a marshall is for. Daly having a typical Daly round does not give him the right to act like an animal and take that out of his hand and destroy it.

I watched the interview with the tournament director on Australian TV and he explained that the spectator shouldnt have had the camera on the course in the first place, he also stated that JD was taking a penalty drop and the spectator was only a few feet away snapping pictures when Daly broke the camera.

Comon JD make the cut, i wanna watch you on Sat.

Well, all I can say is that on the ticket it says "No Camera's" and the guy even said he had allready taken about 6 up close shots of Daly and felt brave. When Daly grabed his camera he said he was about six inches from Daly's face. Daly said my eyes are still burning from the flash that tells you how close he was. The AU is not even going to fine Daly for the act, which tells me he was in the right, and the guy did not want to do anything about it, so that tells me he knew he was wrong. No, matter follow the rules just like you are playing golf. Gental man's game.

So this makes Daly a gentleman and two wrongs make a right, then?

Yea, he is a gentalman...Every body forgets about all the good things he has done for other, and they just focus on the bad. You may not like the guy and thats okay but he has a good heart, and a loose way of thinking.

Actually, I think very highly of the good things Daly has done. Unfortunately he has chosen to pair those things with more than his share of poor acts. Taken together, I don't think very highly of Big John, even though I think he has done some great things.

Whether or not he is a gentleman I'll leave to you. It depends on your definition of gentleman I suppose.

why would the details not matter?!?!? the guy with the camera could have been crazy for all you know. first off, it happened in the woods and i doubt there was a marshal there. This guy is BREAKING the rules of no cameras allowed, which probably doesnt matter to you, because anyone can obviously tell that you are extremely biased. second until you make the pga tour and go through what those guys go through, day in and day out, then mabe you can talk. until then i would lay off Daly, and keep your "he shouldnt have done this or that" comments to yourself because the guy has a lot of pressure on him.

Lots of people are under lots of pressure. Lame excuse. He's a professional, supposedly.

yeah, but how many guys out there have messed up their lives as bad as he has? He is trying to get back to competitive golf, and these fans with cameras arent helping the situation at all. As far as i see it, they guy broke the camera rule, therefore his camera is free game, especially when a player has a problem with it.

Daly made his bed, he has to lie in it. It isn't the guys fault Daly fubar'd his life, he isn't responsible to fix it. As for whether a person has the right to take the law into their own hands, I'll leave that discussion for another time.

your making it sound like Daly killed a man or something. he offered to replace the camera, what more do you want? answer this then, if the guy would have followed the rules, would Daly have had to "take the law into his hands"?
