Lets see, we are (Cleveland) nearly bankrupt, you bought us, we'll run things since we have a presence here. Granted we weren't successful but we are here. Makes sense to me.

Srixon is profitable, growing in distribution, and are makeing a profit. I know in my area that their golf ball bookings for next season are in the tanks. Many facilities purchased Srixon balls because of the rep. Once they did, they got sales so it was a win win situation. He was let go in favor of the Cleveland rep that just ships product without even seeing the customer. Because they don't want to see him.

This is the case in my area as well (and from other folks I know around the country). The Cleveland reps had no vested interest in pushing Srixon and are not used to selling balls / servicing mid-level accounts on a mulitple-stop basis during the season...they mainly focus on their top 20 accounts during the spring and summer...otherwise they will stop by once in October to pre-book you.

I can't imagine SRI is too pleased with the fall Srixon pre-book totals from some of these Cleveland guys... I know lots of accounts that no longer carry Srixon balls based on the cutting of their Srixon rep and the lack of service in the past from Cleveland guys.

I talked to a range owner the other day... bought 2,000 dozen Srixon range balls last year (good size order for Srixon) and has yet to hear from the new Cleveland rep... said he will be taking his business to Nike because their rep has actually visited him this fall.

Golfweek Tour Blog states the following... just passing along info!

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Vijay Singh, at 45 the grand old man of the PGA Tour, has continually demonstrated the confidence to play with virtually any golf equipment.

Singh, a longtime user of the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball, won the Chevron World Challenge here at Sherwood Country Club with a Srixon Star ball. It seems he will switch officially to a Srixon ball at the end of the year when his Titleist contract expires. The move was confirmed by a Srixon official who asked to remain anonymous. When Singh was queried about it, he smiled and said nothing.

The Star is a new Srixon ball aimed at Tour-level players. Singh played the Pro V1x in winning two FedEx Cup events late in the season, but seems relaxed about changing allegiance. He and Jim Furyk would be Srixon's most visible contract players.

Apparently Singh also will play for a new equipment company for 2009, going from Cleveland to TaylorMade. This rumor was swirling around Sherwood Country Club, site of the Chevron tournament. Once again, Singh chose not to comment.

Singh has been Cleveland's most prominent staff member. He has drawn particular attention to Cleveland wedges, because he uses new wedges with fresh grooves for every major championship.

It is clear that Singh has benefited more than any other golfer from the absence of Tiger Woods.

With no Tiger, Singh ran away with the 2008 FedEx Cup points race. He won the PGA Tour money title. Now he has captured the Chevron event, hosted by Woods and benefiting the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Tiger Woods Learning Center.

As if to prove his individuality, Singh is the only big-name golfer in the world to play with Scandium alloy shafts in his irons. Scandium is sold by Element 21 Golf, which promises great performance with superb feel.

Such a claim might sound empty if not for Singh, who joins Woods, Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington as part of contemporary golf's Big Four.

If Singh changes both ball and club preferences in 2009 and has a fabulous year at the age of 46, he will solidify his position as one of the most successful equipment switchers in professional golf history.

VJ going to TM and switching to Srixon balls makes no sense. I will believe it when I see it. This guy Achenbach states, last sentence of his article, "If Singh changes both ball and clubs preferences in 2009....". Yeah right. "IF".

Call me stupid, but if VJ ever switches to another club company, my bet would be on Wilson, as Wilson is looking to add one or 2 big names to their portfolio, and VJ and Wilson had a great relationship up until things turned sour around the time the Fat Shaft was introduced. But I don't think it will happen either.

I bolded the interesting part.

it is possible the article was edited after the original posting. It happens sometimes. The other possibility is someone is being a little dishonest.

I was thinking that the original post was edited....possibliy an injunction from the club manufacturers....still interesting

I suspect that is the case as well. Does that make the rumor more, or less, interesting?

To each their own... but I think CG has BY FAR the least exciting tour staff lineup off all the OEM's. Im sorry but Ken Duke others like him make me a little sick. There is no doubt that flashy young players draw people to the game (they certainly did for me), and in turn draw people to the brand and clubs they are playing. Shoot even Srixon has Stenson...

Ken Duke makes you sick? Thats slightly strong don't you think?

I think it makes the rumor more interesting. Someone obviously doesn't want the rumor out there (I think they're too late) but it gives me something to keep an eye on. Ah living vicariously through others

Ken Duke is awesome.

i listened to an interview a few weeks ago that ken duke gave during his offseason at home so i'm able to give a legitimate and informed opinion of the guy unlike others.....he's indeed awesome. down to earth as anyone you'd want to meet and 100% humble. understands it's a privilege to be playing golf for a living and is out there giving it his all. earned my respect on the spot and is flat out a good dude

I'm going to add something else to the mix.

This may belong in another thread, but I think it was mentioned here: I was in Orlando and chatting with some people I know with Watts and I asked about Srixon. The Srixon club display has been removed from the store and any remaining equipment has been sent to the outlet center. I was told that nobody seems to know what is happening with Srixon clubs domestically but there have been no new orders placed.

Whether this means much remains to be seen, but I did find it interesting (and depressing) in light of what has been discussed here.

The srixon equipment is really discounted at the local shop here, I think the wedges are something like $35.

I REALLY want to like this ball. I've decided that 2009 will be the year of 'one ball'. I've always just played whatever ball I bought on a whim. I want to stick to a consistent bag this year, both clubs and ball, on my quest to become a "+". I'm annoyed with Titleist and Callaway for some reason, and am going to either Bridgestone or Srixon this year.

One question. I read somewhere, probably an unreliable source, that Srixon makes a completely different ball for their tour guys than what we can buy off the shelves. Similar to the NOP for Tiger vs the NOP for the rest of us that Nike did in the past. Can anybody confirm or reject that WITH CERTAINTY. I don't want a guess, or just what you might think, but a definite answer. Maybe nobody knows for sure...

Thanks,

In the new Golf Digest Hot List edtion they have a Srixon ad with Vijay in it. He is still wearing his Cleveland visor with the Stanford logo on the front of it. Maybe he will stick with Cleveland and put the Stanford company logo on the front of his visors. Maybe thats why he has been giving his Cleveland visors away.

They also have a Cleveland driver ad in the new Golf Digest and he has on that same visor with cleveland golf written on the sides with the Stanford logo on the front of it. So maybe Stanford might be giving him more money to put their logo on his visors, but not leaving Cleveland.

How do you all know this for a fact? Has it been released?
