need stiffer shaft. nippon??

need some input on shafts. any info is appreciated

okay i was told by my clubfitter that i can either go nippon 1050gh x or dynamic golf SL in s300 and he said to do some research and really either one would be perfect. i currently have the rifle flighted 6.0 and they are just not stiff enough. any comparisons or experiences with these shafts would be greats, thanks matt

Nippon properly fitted for you are the smoothest steel shaft I've ever hit. Buttery compared to DG, though DG is a classic. I think for me, Nippons are my new go to shaft company.

Why S300s with driver ss of 115? Seems to me you're better suited with x100s.

i am not sure why s300.not sure if there is a difference between the s300 and sl s300. He said check out the SL s300. i am open to suggestions what he said is not final. i hear a lot of good things about the nippons. is anyone playing the 1050 gh X? what stifffness would that compare to? i can find the 1050 gh S for 160, but nothing in the x. from the nippn ste i coulc get the X flex but the cost is 54 a shaft. anyone hit both the x and s? he sai s would work great, but x might be a little better, any opinions?

I certainly agree but am no expert - I was swinging SL X100's in my irons with a driver speed of only 105. Those shafts felt nice and weren't harsh at all for me.

thanks for all the info so far guys. i know nothing about shafts, just how to swing my clubs. any other recommendations from people with similar swings? as in my sig i avg 115 mph ss and 167 mph ball speed with my driver and tend to like to trap the ball with my irons. from what i have been told high kick shaft with a firm tip is ideal for me because of the way i load the club, or smething like that. (not sure on the terminology with these things) however, i naturally launch the ball lower so maybe a mid kcik. the nippons only come in mid and i think this would fit well. i like to work the ball both ways and have that option. i know this is not a lot of info, but based on this anyone got some nice recommendations? i really appreciate everyone's input, matt

According to True Temper, the only difference between the DG S300 and the DG SL300 is static weight. The SL version is around 103g Vs 130g for the normal S300. To get the same performance in the lighter shaft the Dynamic Gold SL shafts are designed with a reinforced tip section that has a much thicker shaft wall.

 

In terms of the Nippons some people feel they do play soft to flex possibly due to the lighter weight. This topic has a bit more info on that and the OP has a similar SS to your own, albeit a little slower. This may be why your fitter has suggested an X as opposed to an S?

 

If the rifle 6.0 is a little too soft, why not just move up to a 6.5 or soft-stepped 7.0?

yeah the 6.0 is jsut way too soft. all i hear is good things about these nippons, but i am just curious about the major difference between the 1050gh s and x. with an x will i be able to play as many feel shots? i am concerned that with an x stiff shaft it will cause problems when not swinging hard. eiher way, thanks for the info foster. im waiting on a reply from some of the guys in that thread. thanks

I agree that you should consider KBS. Why don't you have some demo clubs built with each and test them out before having your full set reshafted?

thats not a bad idea. i was looking at the kbs shafts and was not sure which one and do not know anyone in the area with any that i could demo. i live in nj and no ranges or fitters really have the nippons or kbs that i was considering.

hahaha o. yeah i thought i remembered you. i looked at your bag a while ago and your putting project. i am very impressed with both. and your vector. lol. i am 99% at this point though that i will be ordering the KBS Tour X flex. i just talked to my clubfitter and we think the best combo would be those. the nippons would be very close, but it will be extremely difficult to get the nippons and at a good price. i am able to get the kbs for 135. thanks for all your help though. o and i also am jealous of your AZ weather. it is 7 deg here in NJ. haha
