Need a Driver

I was at the driving range today and my Callaway X460 broke. It is 10.5 degrees and has a Speeder shaft in it. I am looking for something cheap, prolly around $100, dictated by economic situation. What would be good to check out on ebay? I am looking for something that will play similarly.

Incidentally, I would also like a shaft that has the same characteristics. Needs to be a stiff as my swing speed was 105 when I got fitted for the X460.


Ideas??


I have a decent swing, and my usual miss is a towering cut. Mostly straight off the tee, averaging maybe 270ish.

Why not just re-shaft with another speeder?

Cant go wrong with a titleist 905 and can usually be found pretty cheap

If you go to Golf galaxy now you might be able to still get some deals, they are "liquidating" there used equipment, but alot of stuff might be gone in your area already!!! may be worth a look

Probably not going to be able to reshaft...it is a pull, the X460 is a bore through, and it only plays 44.25"

 

I will check the Titleist...has anyone hit Adams stuff recently?

Rock bottom golf has an Adams BUL5000 for about $70. Does anyone play one of these?

I have a Macgregor MT 8.5° with a Fujikura Rombax 7Z08 stiff shaft that would fit the bill as far as swing speed goes. High launch (higher than my 9.5 J33R) and lower spin with great feel. This is a fantastic combination, but my swing speed is up around 112-118mph and I have to slow things down too much or the shaft gets a bit loose. I have hit my longest drives with this combination. I can ship it to you for under $100 (assuming CONUS).

You can't beat the Macgregor MT for $ 69 at Rockbottomgolf right now. Especially with the Aldila DVS shaft in it.

I play the bull by adams and it is very forgiving off the toe and very long, however the stock shaft sucks hard and plays really soft for a stiff shaft. I had mine frequencied and sometimes it would be a weak regular flex and other times it would be stiff. if your going to buy it (which i recommend) you should definately get it reshafted.

I guess I should go to the local shop and see what they have on clearance. Probably should hit a few first anyway, it is way to hard to get something without knowing what it will do. Too bad I can't spend some big money and get on a monitor :(

If you really liked the x460 you can pick up another one for under $100 on ebay no problem. Also, if you like Cobra they can be had really cheap. I just sold an Fspeed for under $50 on ebay.

If your into Callaway stay with that, ft3's and hyper x's can be had ridiculously cheap. I would recommend a Cleveland though...Hibore XL. Great club if you can handle the scooped crown.

I got my cobra x-speed for $89 at golfsmith, and its in MINT condition. DO you have one locally? I love love love the cobra, its a monster when hit on the screws, and forgiving on mishits as well.

I got the original tour edge exotics driver new on ebay for $60 shipping included. Its an older model from 05 or 06, but it got good reviews everywhere I looked. Don't know how the head or the shaft will play in comparison to your former driver, but at that price it is worth a look. Good luck

You have to pay to hit on a monitor? I let anyone hit on my monitor for free. I want them to know what they are buying before they spend big money.

Yeah, last time I was there, they wanted something like $100 for the trackman and half of that applies to buying something. It is a funny setup there, especially for a top 100 shop. I don't agree with it either...

That's bull making you pay. My local shop has a twenty ball limit, but if none else is in the store and you're not misbehaving then it's no big deal. I hit something like 30-40 balls there looki for a hybrid one time. Free too.

I would like to think that their reasoning is that someone has to run the machine, so you are paying for their help. Also, if it were free, then no one would ever get a chance as too many people would be on there all day...

My normal hit is straight. I feel like if I had a draw weighted club, i would just be asking for trouble. Sometimes I get on a streak of a couple duck hooks...
