What's Alvaro Quiros' swing speed with the driver ?

The man has a very quick tempo and hits the ball a mile....

Just saw Quiros win the Quatar Masters last week and while not being a fan of his quick tempo swing, I must say I'm impressed at how far he hits the ball and with that extreme lag he creates. He will always have a tendency to over hook the ball with that swing and his swing is certainly not a thing of beauty, but not exactly ugly nor weird like the swings of Bubba Watson and JB holmes either.

I think Sergio Garcia's swing speed is averaging around 119-120 Mph with the driver and Bubba Watson and JB Holmes is averaging around 124 -126 mph - my guess is that Quiros is in the 125 mph range too. He's currently averaging 312.5 yards off the tee on the European Tour, but with his tempo, height and crazy swing, he looks like a guy, that can bomb it as long as Bubba Watson - Bubba Watson is currently averaging 310 yards off the tee on the PGA Tour.

Anyone seen Quiros hitting driver off a tee box, where they had a Trackman ?

I believe he is longer than Bubba, and JB, although once you are that long its hard to tell. By all accounts of those who have played with him or at the same tournament he is so long its ridiculous.. I think you will see just how long when he qualifies for the Masters or WGC event.. I have watched him hit right next to me on the range and have lots of footage.. very good swing actually, very fundamentally sound, very compact with the irons.. and just blazes it.. on quite a flat trajectory.. but ball just doesent come down.. At Wentworth he was clearing the trees at the back of the range no probs.. According to a friend of mine who plays on tour Theres a hole at Loch Lomond, par five on the back nine which apparently if you are a long hitter you can just get a three wood up there if you absolutely crush driver.. Apparently he was going over the corner and hitting GW.. he hits a lot of 3 woods as well in that driving average..

Quiros and Ross Fisher are miles ahead of nearly anyone else on the European Tour in terms of raw length, even Stenson and Karlsson are lagging behind this pair.

 

I was at Portugal Masters for Alvaro's win there last year and now he has Dave McNeilly on the bag (legendary caddy for faldo, harrington, fasth and many others) he has started to really step it up on a regular basis.

Word has it that Irish Dave is predicting great things for Quiros - and for his own bank balance as long as he's on the bag.

 

I've not seen Quiros up close yet, but Stenson is worryingly long and, having played a couple of times with Ross around his home track, I can confidently go on record as saying he is humiliatingly long with every club in the bag. He also gets one of the best ballflights I've ever seen with a long iron. Almost Sandy Lyle quality, in fact.

Dave was caddying for Quiros at Portugal as a quick loop between Fasth and Goosen, Quiros won and he's been on the bag ever since and Retief had to find someone else.

 

I know Ross well, and if he gets the putter going on a regular basis he can become a permanent fixture inside to world's top 50.

I remember seeing Ross Fisher at a amateur event ages ago - and the first hole is a 340~ yard par 4, up hill, and the freak hit a 3 wood onto the green.......there was a slight tail wind, but even so.

I think some other guys went for it with their drivers but barely got it on the approach.

Look guys, I have no doubt Ross Fisher and Henrik Stenson are insanely long with every club in their bag - Stenson especially with his strong 3 wood - but I don't believe any of these two guys are close to being as long as Alvaro Quiros.

 

Stenson might well be in the 118-120 mph range with his driver, but just by looking at Quiros swing with the driver and check where the ball lands, you can tell his tempo and swing speed is up there with the likes of Bubba Watson, JB Holmes, Dustin Johnson and Robert Garrigus.

 

Quiros played with Paul Casey yesterday, and Casey, also considered a solid long hitter, I believe is in the 118 mph swing speed range with the driver. Quiros was 15-20 yards longer than Casey all day. Sergio is in the 120-121 mph range with the driver, Quiros surely must be in the 125 mph range with his driver, not exaggerating here!

 

I like Ross Fishers swing better than Quiros' swing and KNOW Ross will be Top 20 in the world soon....very soon - but Quiros is a freak. Not sure he will be Top 20 material, but it's sure fun to watch him play. Saw him win his first tourney at the Creek in South Africa 2 years ago, so knew he was coming :)

The European tour has some really promising young players at the moment, it would be nice to see them go on a run of winning majors, harrington has led the way.

At least 125. Our Pro watched him for 2 rounds in Portugal last year and was really impressed, especially his more drilled flight compared to some of the other big hitters.

Another who unleashes the odd mega drive is Fernandez Castano, he carried a bunker 322 yards last year, with water all down the left and the tournament neck and neck. He won...

I woud assume driver ss 125 mph on average for him but for sure easy above 120mph ; no way he is only 118 mph just my 2 cents

and again I like that guy hitting it long and the good thing is he can also putt !!!

 

Ross Fisher whom I like as may have a more elegant swing but I just like that Kid hammering it with the driver and the irons;

 

Rory from NI is another one to watch out.

 

I would love to see a threesome

1) Quiros 2) Fisher and 3) Rory

or any mix combined with our US friends Bubba and JB

Álvaro Quirós is officially the longest driver on either European or PGA Tour.

And although he has a 'rushed' look to his downswing, it ain't anywhere near as ugly as JB Holmes, who looks like he'll swing himself off his feet when he lays into one.

At least Quirós retains his balance.

I was at the SHO on saturday when they were finishing the 2nd round and got to see Quiros for a bit before he was cut. Wow is all I can say. The 4th hole is a par 5 that doglegs left and has a set of bunkers on the corner that are 290 to carry. Well needless to say I didn't see many actually try to carry them. Most were just hitting it out right. Luke Donald pulled one right at them and came up short (pretty funny, he went back and checked the yardage book and shook his head). Well Quiros gets up there and knocks it 20 yards over without a sweat. He absolutely hit it harder than I've see someone hit it. Had an FT-5 with a voodoo shaft. Not sure which one, probably the pp version. Anyways he hit this high flat bomb that just carried. I went back and checked and it went about 330 without a problem. For the week he was averaging about 328. Not bad.

I heard that the Tour van found it difficult to find anything stiff enough for him.

 

Now 8.5 that is stiff.

 

I think Tommy Armour 3 also uses 8.5's
