Perry in 2009 at aged 49 (since the previous posts were earlier that year) won twice, 2nd once and 8 top 10 finishes overall on the PGA Tour. No miss cuts and won $4,445,562.

For comparison, Kim had 3 top 10 finishes overall with 2nd once and 3rd twice. 5 missed cuts and won $1,972,155.

Love that homemade swing...

Sequencing ? Pffft...watch this as the Kentucky Rifle rips one 300 yds down the fairway.

Funny thing is, If you posted this video without context over in the instruction subforum and asked for comment on this video of ‘your swing’, you’d get a dozen people telling you ten things you’re doing wrong and how you’ll never be a good player with that swing.

As good as KP?  Not sure, but I am sure if AK ended up on Horvat's YT channel, Grant would need to give him 5 shots, not the other way around.

Grant is legitimately a good player. He shot -2 at Pinehurst #2 while AK is struggling to break 80 at Resort courses. Horvat might have to give AK 3 shots a 9 to make it competitive

KP will go down as my favorite underrated golfer.  Plus I think his swing an tempo are things to be envied.  It seems like a swing that once you groove it will last you a life time.  You just set it back, turn the shoulders, and fire away.  No unnecessary movement or anything like that.

Whenever I get really jumpy at the ball (and on the way back) I try to envision KP's swing as something to emulate.

I think my biggest question is why does it look like he's 3ft in front of the tee markers, lol.

It was such a fun tournament, Duval, Mickelson.....Hunter Mahan was a young talent. Plus Richard Barnes was the former #1 ranked AM who had struggled as a pro then i think set a US Open record for 36 holes IIRC

But Lucas Glover aw shucks'd his way to a win!

I was there...

Monday finish and we got there on the first bus from the Farmingdale train station.

We made a quick stop at the American Express concession where they'd loan you these great little closed-circuit personal TV's -- then we made a beeline for the stands on #17.

We settled into the top row and from there could see both shots on 1 & 18, tee ball on 15, approach on 16, and obviously all of 17.  The rest we watched on TV!

Great tourney...

It’s been a few years.  Now that AK is playing and KP is retired, has anyone changed their minds?

AK is NOT equal to KP in his prime.  Bias has people following AK... he has some game, but he's NOT mentally in the same sphere as KP when it comes to getting the job done.  KP won 17 times, also wins on the Champion's tour.  AK, today, may be able to out-drive KP, but I would bet KP could still beat him.

I’m just seeing this thread for the 1st time. ‘Kenny Perry vs. Anthony Kim’…. 🤔 I kinda wanna say that’s a really odd comparison IMO and the relevance escapes me.
But this is a golf forum and they are both golfers… So I’m just gonna shut my mouth and “keep scrolling”. 😇

LOL your comment brings my mind to this... 🤣

The thread began in 2009 when AK was on tour. That's the genesis of it. Long story short at age 64 KP is still light years better than AK today as he was in 2009.

Context.

I started this thread way back in the day when AK was really being over-hyped on the forum.  I thought it was delusional, so I thought comparing him to a late 40’s “Journeyman” would snap folks back into reality on how AK was not the next TW.  I also think KP was underrated given his career, particularly in his 40’s.  Probably only 2nd only to VJ from age 40-50.

KP was one of the best Drivers in the Game for a very long time.

Since when has context mattered on WRX?! 😂 A lot of threads just take on a life of their own.
A few days ago a 3 year old thread about The Golf Channel feed pixelating turned into a ‘when did you cut the cord thread?’. All good to me as I smile and “just keep scrolling”. 😊

*”Just keep scrolling” reminds me every time of that movie ‘Finding Nemo’!

This thread is a rare instance of the under-appreciated quality known as wit.  It has aged very well.  True wit tends to do that.

Anyone worth their salt actually giving feedback would say that better angles would be needed for real analysis but the details speak for themselves. Also from even just that vid it's pretty clear he does a lot of things that align with the composites we have to do comparisons with. Players like Lietzke get a lot of love over there despite not having a "picture perfect" swing because of how many things they do correctly.

I've yet to see someone actually mirroring something near Perry's swing get the business over there. Feel free to point me to some, though.
