I consider Sergio an elite player. I consider Adam Scott an elite player. Neither of them have won a major. Paddy has THREE majors. So yes, he is an elite player. Also, Tiger says that at the end of the day, majors are all that matters.

Adam Scott!? You're kidding right? They guy has a nice swing and has won at Sawgrass. Once. That's basically it. IMO one of the most overrated players on tour, mainly based on his consistent failure to contend in majors. Scott is the very epitome of style over substance. At least Sergio has almost won one!

As far as Harrington goes, I think people viewing him as somehow not 'elite', tends to stem from the fact is not, by his own admission, the most naturally talented player on tour. He's got where he is mainly due to hard work, and his game in more workmanlike than spectacular. Bottom line is he's won three majors, something few other players (comparatively speaking) in the history of golf can match.

That said if you combined Sergio's natural talent with Harrington's drive, work ethic and mental fortitude only then you might have a player to challenge Woods on a regular basis.

I agree with this, Paddy is a lot like Vijay in that he work his @ss off to compete (even more than everybody else on tour), and win and goes through cold streaks but when he is on he can flat out dominate. I love these type of player, but a lot of people just love the natural tallents that make it look so easy every time (me included).

He also hasn't got the most coverage as many just learned of his true tallent this year (again myself included).

Right now he has to be elite, and only time will tell if he is an all time great but right now I will say he is not an all time great yet. (hope he will be though)

I hate this idea of "natural talent".

Paddy still working away as hard as ever and making a few swing changes:

Harrington gets swinging

Tuesday, 17 February 2009

Padraig Harrington is tweaking his game to be more like Tiger Woods, the man he aims to beat to Major glory this season.

Harrington is working on a subtle swing change which could place him on a par with Tiger at golf's Grand Slams.

Woods is famous for the exceptional control he wields over the flight and spin of his golf ball, an art he perfected at the dawn of the new century to great effect as he took the 2000 US and British Opens by storm before completing the 'Tiger Slam' at the US PGA and Masters.

According to a Harrington insider, Ireland's triple Major champion and coach Bob Torrance believe they are close to achieving this Holy Grail of ball-striking.

"Padraig is working on that ball flight for the Majors," explains Tadhg Harrington, caddie to his younger brother during his amateur career and currently climbing the coaching ladder at Titleist's elite Performance Institute in California.

"At the Majors, the flags are put in the most unbelievable places.

“They're all on little shelves and you need your golf ball to land and stay there"

Who cares about how many cuts you have missed? What does that get you at the end of the day? There are some weeks you may not play your best. Do you think Sergio would trade his made cuts for just ONE of Padraig's majors? I am willing to bet he would. I know, you have to make the cut to win, but if you want to just pile up made cuts and call that a career, go right ahead. I will take a guy who knows how to play when it counts.

He is elite, Phil is elite, Vijay is elite. Winning in the Tiger Woods era is an impressive thing considering there will be so fewer tournaments for a player to win, especially majors.

I tend to agree with iteachgolf. I watch all the euro events and 90% of the time paddy is no where to be seen. When he is playing good he is amazing. But just doesn't do it enough. His mental game is twice as good as his golf hence why he can get the job done down the stretch.

He has been overly hyped up IMO after winning the PGA and Birkdale, and the chances of him completing a 'paddy' slam and winning the masters are slim to none.

Personally i would not call him an elite player.

I suppose you consider Casey,Rose donald and Poulter elite??? He has 3 MAJORS .................The man is elite.

Look past your english nose and face facts.

Its just my opinion.

And no i don't consider any of the players you listed elite at all. And english nose? Don't be so naive to think that because i live in england i am

a. English.

b. A nationalist.
