CG2 845 X-14PS Blade MPF photos and comments

I have been strangely fascinated with the whole MPF, playability, forgiveness, topline appeal, etc. regarding iron sets. I grabbed my camera and the 4 sets of clubs I own. I'll post them with comments. Feedback welcomed. In my opinion, the most interesting find was that the TA has highest MPF next to the Cally and looks most like the old blade. The CG2 has a fatter topline but a lower MPF. Although I am not necessarily sold on MPF as the end all be all, it is interesting. The only thing that might take the Tommy Armour 845m out of the bag might be the 2005 Callaway X-Forged.

Titleist Tour Model Blade c. 1984 I gamed these when I was young and strong. They are still sweet when you are playing well, but if not, leave them at home. It is fun to hit newer balls with them and really catch one. No feeling like it. Mishits suck, and sting. MPF 136 (yikes)

2003 Tommy Armour 845c - awesome, this is my current club. Looks great at address, a lot like the Titleist, thin topline, and the matching 7-PW are real blades, not cavity. This is a really sweet, forgotten about club that was the best TA offered, right before their demise. It has a soft face and is pretty forgiving on mishits. Solid shots really feel nice though, like a blade or an old Hogan or Mizuno. At least on the 7-PW. The cavities hit like Pings to me. Very smooth. Great combo. MPF 845c 750 845m 650 (SGI and GI)

2005 Cleveland CG2 - I like this club. It is a little non classic looking, kinda small and round, but has a lot of velocity at impact, and hits a low boring shot. Feel is good but muted, ball is easily workable, a really good club that offers different feedback, but feels very solid. The club head is a tad light, so if your transition is weird, you can lose feel of it at the top. I like it though, play it in windy conditions. MPF 568 GI

2000 Callaway X-14 Pro-Series - It's endearing in so many ways, but really at the end of the day it's a mondo shovel. The first clubs I used when I came back to the game in late 90s. Had a multi-year break and had always just had the Titleist blades. A really cool club, and easy to hit though. Initially made the game seem easier, but then hit a wall when trying to score or shoot at a tucked pin, etc. They make you look like Johnny Miller (straight and high) whether you want to or not. It pretty much goes wherever the swingplane takes it, and is hard to shape a shot, but not hard to hit a green. If you are over a 10-15 hdcp, or play less than 12-15 times per year, this could very well be your club. I'll keep them for when I turn 55. MPF 981 UGI
