I enjoy golfing poorly.....

Yuck

Recommended Posts

I have decided I actually enjoy golfing poorly, although not nearly as much as golfing well. Especially in these turbulent times. I played a horrible, slow round this past weekend, and during the four and a half hour debacle, I did not once think about my 401K Balance, my daughters shifty boyfriend, the potential collapse Western society, that iffy mole on my back, my wife's shopping habits, the stimulus plan or the performance of my bladder. Instead I worried about the slowsome in front of us, when was my next shank going to be, what is the record for provisionals in one round, Yips, coming over the top, and chunking half of my pitches. At the end of the day, my bad golf worries displaced my real world worries for a period of time, and for that I was grateful. Plus I actually enjoy the "problem solving" aspect of why did I hack so much this time around.

I feel the same way. If I'm playing golf, good or bad, I don't think about anything else. It's a complete escape from reality. For the the time I'm on the course it's golf and nothing else.

Yo Harold Baines...

I'm a HUGE, repeat HUGE White Sox fan. Shook hands with Gerry McNertny, the Sox back up catcher in 1964 and didn't wash that hand until the Reagan administration.

Liked Harold a lot...but...hopefully you're not one of the Harold throng that believes he was a clutch ball player. Seriously...the Sox are up/down 9-2 and he's the one to jack a 3 run shot. Very good defensive player...but intrigued to hear what your take is on HB!

That's one of the best posts I've ever read on this site. Kudos.

I second that. The title alone made me laugh before I even read the post.

I cant say that I ENJOY golfing poorly. I put a lot of reading and hard work into my game so golfing poorly really makes me mad. But when I do golf bad, which is most of the time, I love tring to fix it. I do love being out on the course and losing myself in my game. I think I love it cause I will never be happy with my golf game. I will always want my Hndcp to be lower. It's the process that I love the best. Cant beat a day on the course!!!

Hey just make sure another WRX'er doesn't see you with the staff bag.

:cheesy:

One time a golf writer said something to the effect of "Most golfers think they want to be a scratch golfer, but in reality what they want is to be able to hit the ball consistently". After thinking about it, I decided that the writer is correct. Right now I bumble around the golf course and play a game of "Do I have enough balls in the bag to get through the round?". Even though I enjoy every minute on the course, I think I'd enjoy the game it a wee bit more if my key swing thought wasn't "I wonder where this shot will go?". And I don't have to be a scratch golfer to have a reasonably consistent swing. Besides, at this stage in my golf career, I'd probably have withdrawl symptoms if I suddenly stopped having to look for my ball in the right rough (ok, the right woods).
