Alright guys, I want to hit the ball higher off the tee with my driver. I have a 9.5* loft. I don't want to switch to a 10.5 because I just don't. I watch the pro's hit and they have a huge launch angle off the tee. Mine is very low. I also look at the pro's and some have an 8* driver... and they still have double the launch angle I do. How? I try playing it off my front foot. I try hitting it on the up swing. Then again from time to time I can hit it high... But not consistant. I'm sick of rolling the ball all the way down the fairway. I want a 11-14* launch angle compared to my 7-8* launch right now.
please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why no 10.5 driver? What shaft is in your current driver? That has a lot do with the launch angle.

Also, what driver is the 9.5*? Is it open/closed? I'm currently playing a SFTP 2.0 at 10.5 but it's open so the actual loft at impact is significantly less.

I have a nike VR driver. It is 9.5 str8fit tour. Has a stiff shaft. I like the driver a lot. Jut not my launch angle. I'm a 3 handicap, but I believe being able to make my launch higher will knock off a couple strokes... as weird as it sounds... Please help... and the reason I don't want to get a 10.5 is because I will lose distance, and if other people can hit the ball high with a 9* or 8* I know its possible to do it.
thanks for you help!

I had a 10.5 driver a couple years ago.. never got great distance with it... All I want is to know how to hit the ball higher, and why I don't hit it high... there's gotta be something I can do to increase my trajectory off the tee. My irons are all fine as far as ball flight and so forth, but its only my driver. My 3 wood gets a great launch angle also. I can smack that thing 260-280 right down the middle everytime, but I want to hit my driver longer than 300 everytime with high launch. I can hit my driver 300.. easy, just not high launch. Usually I have a lot of roll when it goes 310-320. I would love a solid explaination on why or how to hit it higher!

example: how does Anthony Kim hit the ball so damn high with his 8* driver??? I don't get it! Should I try to increase or overexaggerate my reverse C motion on my follow through?

you are right... I am sorry for calling him that... I just looked at some of his posts to other forums and they were close to this. Needham I am sorry

now... spine tilted I get,
proper weight turn, w/ transition, I don't get so much, keep upper center and lower center I don't get too much either, could you go a little more in depth with that?
I would love a moon ball draw, Right now I have about a 7-8* launch draw... so if these tips would help with a "moon ball" draw that would be awesome!!!! Could you somehow put up a diagram of some sort? Or email me one through a word or publisher document? email is rfaris13@gmail.com!

You might not want to hit with the same launch angle as the pros because your ball speed might not be as high. Do you know your SS and ball speed? There's an optimal launch angle with a given spin rate and ball speed.

I turn my hips and use my core a lot in my golf swing... On page 20 it says people that do this result in a low ball flight... could that be my problem that i turn my core too much to the left?
should I maybe try to keep my core on the target line path? instead of just whipping it around and turning it out?
thank you!

The excessive hip movement is fine IF you get to your front pivot point(Your left heel) before you unwind.
Try this in slow motion.
Start your down swing. Don't turn your hips completely until you get your weight onto your left heel and then fire EVERYTHING you have. Now, be careful. Don't SLIDE to your left heel before turning. Turn your hips just enough that you get the weight there, then fire the rest like a cannon.

Think of it this way.
'Kind' insurgents often fire warning shots to make you aware you're in there territory before they unload on you.
This tiny hip turn to get the weight to the left heel is your warning shot. Once the weight is there, unload it all.
You'll find that you have the tiniest bit of lateral movement in your hips, which is OK. It HAS to happen. It says it somewhere in there. But because of this gradual hip turn before the total unloading, you won't feel the lateral motion. But it's there. You just won't feel it.

I played down in Scottsdale at the TPC course the last day it was open to the public and played with a player who was very, very good. He was in a game with some of the local touring pro's (lehman, perry, streelmen and few others playing in front of us) and the first thing I noticed about his game was the height in which he hit his irons period. I was floored to be honest with you. I studied his swing and all I saw was that he was behind the ball with a slight tilt. He was hitting 5 irons about 205-210 range. Nothing super special but man to be able to hit those nice and high into some of those greens was a huge bonus I felt. he was only about 10-15 yards longer then me off the tee (he was maybe to high there) but when it came to those 460 yard holes, I was light years behind him.

Sure, SW adds spin which adds lift, but his SS was not all that high I felt....maybe 107-109 range. It was fun to watch for sure and I was also able to watch Lehman and Streelmen in front of us and saw the same thing on a few par 5's.

. My 3 wood gets a great launch angle also. I can smack that thing 260-280 right down the middle everytime, . I can hit my driver 300.. easy
you are the one complaining about 300 yard drives "easy" not me.

The fix is simple, GO GET FITTED, and see what the launxh monitor and fitter has to say, past that all other discussion is pointless.

IMO, if people would keep their upper center still they would all find they can hit the ball sky high as well.

What do you mean behind the ball with a slight tilt? Spine angle? shoulder angle?
I was watching Tiger at the pga championship last year in kohler WI ( I live about an hour from Kohler), and I was amazed on the height these guys and tiger would put on their balls
I want to get that height so bad!
thanks again!

I said I could hit the ball 300! Yeah a lot of people can do that!!!! But mine are low rollers.... on flat holes.. If im on an elevated hole or the fairway isn't flat or down slope... I hit it 250! It sucks.. when I should be able to carry it 290 and get 15 yards of roll instead of 40!

thanks... I'll get fit.

I tend to hit the ball high as well. Most local pro's I have talked to explain height as a combo of swing speed and attack angle. In the pro tournaments I have been to, especially the Masters, where high ball hitters rain, its so fun watching them hit the ball high. Takes away the need to shape the ball as much as well.

Dear Ryo,

Needham was clearly having a fun joke with you.
You didn't have a right to call him a moron.
Please choose your words more wisely.

Back on topic.
You wanna hit the ball higher with the driver?
Here's how.

At address, spine tilted away from the target.
Proper weight turn, with proper transition.
Keep upper center still while lower center transitions forward,
Release down the target line.
Hello moon ball draw.

Key- Lower and upper 'center' means lower and upper body.
you are right...

Or email me one through a word or publisher document? email is rfaris13@gmail.com!
thanks!!!
Needham is a very amusing person.
Don't be insulted by him.
He's joking most of the time.

Read this.
It'll teach you everything you want to know.

It describes every aspect of the fullswing
Is there a specific part that will show me how to hit it higher, vs. me reading the whole thing? haha
thanks!!!

So if I were to sum up what you just said, don't turn my hips (as a drill) until I feel my weight on my left foot/hell, then unleash the full hip rotation and swing???

i think... haha

If its speed and attack angle, what should the attack angle be? My driver swing speed average is 104.6... so I have a pretty fast swing speed.... but again.. what should the attack angle be?

are you saying like... the head haha... because I have a little tiger woods syndrome head drop/lunge in my swing... my swing path is outside in, and the in is caused by my lunge.. anyway to fix that? If i keep my head still or the upper center... I will hit it higher?
thanks!

Lower center(Being lower body) Will force you to come inside to out.
Just 'lock' your head in. Don't let it move.
And yes.

I did an edit on that post, you just caught it before the edit went through.

Geoff Jones told me..." you can get the best lesson of your life in the parking lot of Denny's and the worst on the tee at Augusta"

Get fit, without proper launch monitor numbers people are guessing at best and giving you a band-aid at worst.

in your present state, had you rather trust some guy of an internet forum or a launch monitor? that is all I am saying

not trying to be rude or mean, but without numbers it is REALLY hard to tell.

GL with your game.
