Z-Star is the best premium ball on the market right now. I got 2 boxes so far and will only play them this year

What a lot of people don't realize is Srixon/Sumitomo have been building balls for other OEM's for years. Remember the Maxfli Revolution, great ball. Srixon made those. They know how to build a ball without using other manufacturers patents.

Maxfli Black Max was my favorite for a while. For some reason all of the new '09 golf balls seem harder than previous years so a softer better feeling premium ball option is a nice alternative.

I got some of these to mess around with.

Z-Star, WOW does it feel good around the greens, maybe a little too soft off the driver? Maybe a little too low spin for my needs off the driver? Going to keep investigating.

Z-Star X, I believe I hit one today around 2PM that still hasn't landed.......it just kept going, man it was long. Little firmer on all shots, but not overly so.

I have to say, these 2 new offerings from Srixon are good, real good. I'm going to keep messing around with both versions to see which one is best for me all around. As my quick thoughts above are based off of very limited experience at this time.

Congrats to Srixon, wonderful product.

Sounds like Srixon actually developed and implemented a plan to climb the charts while Callaway and Titleist were pulling hair and scratching each other's eyes out. Good for them.

It's just speculation - but did anyone notice the naming Z Star and Z Star X - kinda like the ProV1 and ProV1x -

I think that Vijay would not change balls for any reason - but he did, he used to be playing an older form of ProV1x then the lawsuit and win by Callaway......

I'd bet that Srixon bought/rented the formula for the old ProV1 and ProV1x and the guys that used the old ones switched because thats what they want to play.

Just a speculation, but it kinda makes sense. Vijay seems like a no nonsense player and wouldn't change for simply money. And that would help make them jumping to top of ball scene. ;)

Really your gonna go with that? Rent or Borrow? SRI who owns Cleveland and Srixon has some where around 2/3 the world patents on golf balls. They dont need to Borrow or Rent a formula from another company. especially on the that hasnt made a golf ball on there own in since the days of wound balls.

Does anyone know which, if any, NON-Srixon or Cleveland players switched to Srixon? I would think that a fairly large portion of the surge in Srixon's popularity was the result Cleveland staffers switching over to Srixon after the purchase of Cleveland by Srixon.

Also, any stats on the overall use/rank of Srixon balls, rather than just at the WGC-CA?

Miguel Angel Jimmenez is the only non Srixon-Cleveland staffer to switch to the Z-Star that I know of.

Agreed! Smart companies (with capital to spare) invest in marketing through a recession- cheaper and greater reward. With callaway, bridgestone, and titleist clawing at each other throats, srixon had an even better opportunity to attack the market. Money talks, and srixon must be spending because they just added some ryder cuppers and the fed ex champ!

It's a shame that so many golf balls go ignored by the public because of the lack of marketing to back them up though. The maxfli blackmax is one of the best balls I've ever played (and it's 6 years old or something), yet most people never even knew of its existence. Nowadays, I LOVE the b330 but bridgestone has decided to target the bigger demographic by marketing the e5 and 6. Same goes for wilson, of course, except their golf balls get no marketing whatsoever.

The Z-star is the softer ball and boy does it feel nice. I got the pre-release batch that true players sent out and the Z-star is awesome. I'm sold. And the Z-star X is a little harder but it goes long. I prefer the softer balls and the Z-star is the ball for me. This is the new boss of the balls disregarding name bandwagon (Titleist).

I love this ball. I used to only use pro v's and they would just go bad after nine holes. I used a z starX for 27 holes and it still looked pretty good. I even hit the cart path once and it was a very small scuff. the performance is amazing off the driver and around the greens I can put just as much spin as I want. this is the best ball on the market by miles

36 holes and going strong like the energizer bunny

ditto...

Hopefully i wont loose it, im going to play the same ball for as long as possible to see how it fairs, so far it hardly has a mark on it after 36,its seen plenty of bunkers and pitch/full shots with a couple of spin milled's that are virtually new, these are the same wedges that prior to z stars arrival resigned the so called more durable 09 pro v1 to the practice ball bag after 2 pitches in 3 holes.

Im really impressed, its the best ball i'v ever used, and is almost perfect in every way except one,the one being that it dont say Titleist on it
