In a 58*, I'd recommend one of the new Spin Milled Vokeys. If you get it in the 8 or 12 degree bounce, they have the C grind. If you don't want that, you could always pick up last years at a discount. I've played Vokey for 3 years and couldn't complain about anything.

I picked up my current Scratch 60* because my Vokey was worn out so I thought I'd try out what all the hype was about. It's an excellent wedge, fine craftsmanship, great feel and all...but I wouldn't necessarily say it's any "better". Sure the EGG grind is nice, and it allows a little more creativity around the greens, but if that's not a big factor to you then I don't think Scratch will stand out particularly. Will I stick with mine? Sure. Would I be perfectly content with a new SM Vokey? Yes.

Bottom line for me...both of my recommendations are great. If you're all about custom options and specific grinds, for sure go Scratch, but don't go in to it expecting something extraordinarily better than the rest. If you just want an OTR Vokey, Discount Dans has the '09s for $99

Go with the Snake Eyes 685 box wedges they are the best wedges around square grooves and very soft forgings. I had them fitted with KBS wedge shafts and I have tried all OEM and these are better for feel and control. Besides with OEM all you are doing is paying for marketing and promo. Big mistake if you don't go with the SE!

I'd have to say that the new mass-production cast and forged Scratch wedges are the best for the money. The custom feel of the basic 8620 Scratch wedge blows by Vokey by a mile... and they're cheaper at $99. Beat that!

Gave up my Mizzy MP-T :black eye: for the NIKE VR's 52*/56*/60* after trying Scratch, Titleist, Cleveland and not liking any of them.

Best wedge out right now for overall playability is the VR line for me.

For me it was the VR line. The Vokeys are too heavy. The mizunos are ugly. The Cleveland CG14s are sweet too.

You think the Mizunos are ugly but you like the CG14s with the yellow insert? I think your spaceship is waiting for you :russian_roulette:

good one! By ugly I meant the way the club lies down. I don't like the way they applied the bounce. I hate the hump on the bottom of the club. The Nike is so much cleaner. The 14s just play great and sit perfectly. Nice sharp edge.

And yes the yellow thing is ugly

I wouldn't mind trying the new 8620, as mine is the JLM. I know I probably start some controversy when I make statements like I did above in my last post...but I'm just trying to be realistic and completely honest in my own opinion to the original post. I'm not saying one is better than the other as a whole, just that the average golfer would probably not notice a difference.

BTW, like I said...'09 Vokeys are $99 to your door (tax/shipping included) at Discount Dans if you call them (at least the price I got)

To each his own preferences but I don't think you'll get a consensus here around Mizunos being ugly.....

I've tried the OEMs and a few others. I like the SM5808 the best for it's spin and soft feel. I ground it the same as the Mizuno MP-R I have. I like what I can do with it from just about anywhere. I am going to try out Scratch's 1018 line this year. The CG12 DSG RTG is another solid performer.

If you find the old Callaway Forged+ they really control the shot and feel great. I have a 52 that I bent for a gap and just found a 60 to replace my X-Tour once it wears out.

If anything is said negitive about mizzy on this site, there is an uproar. I didn't mean the club was ugly, I just said it don't like they did the bounce. I hate that double hump on the bottom on the club. I didn't buy a 58 vokey for the same reason.

It all depends on YOUR preference... there are so many good ones, and to say that one is better than the other is preposterous.

Scratch wedge are great. CG14's are awesome. Vokey Spin Milled's are nice and Cally X Forged are sweet too.

PING Tour-W's are fantastic as well.

There are just so many great choices. I have the CG14's in play, and I find them to be excellent.... but that's not to say that the others aren't great either, as I've chipped in many times with Scratch wedges, Cally's and PING's.

Double humps and bumps? At least you could get the terms correct. Apparently, you haven't seen many wedges nor know much about clubmaking because the looks and grinds of the Mizuno wedges are similar to many others. Yet, you like the CG14s with the yellow plastic insert. No, it's not a Mizuno bias, just that you don't know what you are talking about.

Another vote for Scratch. I have the JLMs but the new 1018s are supposed to be better yet. And if they're out of your price range, they're got the new 8620 wedges. I've never used one, but I'd guess it's equal to the Vokey at worst. They look very similar to me. I guess it's cheaper ($99) for some people, but around here both are $99.

I Vote for the Cleveland CG 14's as they are so consistant.

I used a black sharpie on the yellow insert and that makes a huge cosmetic difference.

I love the old 588 shape they have with new technology bulit in.

They spin just right, and do not chew the Pro V1 covers up like the Vokey's and Callaway's.

This is important too, if you are lke me and pay $45.00 a dozen for your Pro V's.

If you get your golf balls for free then the Vokey's are would be my second choice.
