best GPS apps for iPhone

I am about to buy an iPhone in a couple days and would love to get some consensus on which are best, and what features each has. I am mainly concerned with accuracy of yardages, amount of yardages, speed/efficiency, and number of courses. Less importantly, would also love shot distance tracking, club recommendations, and scoring options as well. I'm pretty sure none of them have all of these, but would appreciate some help narrowing it all down. Thanks!

EDIT: price really isn't an object. i just want the one that works best. also, try to be descriptive as possible of all the features, so people can use this thread in the future. all the other iPhone GPS threads were kinda weak.

I have ViewTI golf. Its pretty good, but the down side is it doesn't display the entire hole. It only shows the green and about 50-100 yds, maybe a little more before the green.

It's pretty accurate with the distances. The is a $1 version of it. You can get that to see how it is.

I have all of the newer gps apps I use green finder the most but I am lucky enough to get all my apps for free but still like green finder shows all hazards distances and front,center,back green distances. Also measures your distance that you ht the ball.

sounds pretty good. in looking at their site, they seemed to have the most courses as well. from everything i've read, i'm leaning toward them, but definitely want to know if anyone knows anything better.

I have greenfinder also. It worked fine for a couple weeks, I used my Skycaddie to compare yardages and they were real close. But now it is way off, yardages are 15-20 yrds off. If price isn't a concearn go with a designated golf gps device. Skycaddie is back in my bag

 

Also, major downside with Iphone apps is the loading between shots. I have had it take up to a minute. You just stand there waiting for the yardage to come up.

ouch. yeah, i dont really need a dedicated GPS device, but i am getting an iphone and figured i'd try their apps. but being the guy who is standing 10 yards away from the 150 marker, waiting for his little toy to load, sounds like hell. i wonder why the yardages went on the fritz for you?

All you do is buy an external battery which will extend you battery life by 4 - 8 hours depending on which model you get. Then just leave your i phone on the whole round which will leave it connected to the satellite and keep your gps running. That way its always ready to use. When you turn it off and back on the iphone has to reconnect to the satellite which then it gives funny readings sometimes it was say your 10,000 yards away but once it gets signal it will correct the yardage. And always update your apps as much as you can that way you have the most current software on your phone. You can always send a msg to the app designers to work out the bugs and issues you have with your iphone. I never have issues with my iphone I can get yardages and be on this site when it gets slow on the course.

so, i've decided against using the iphone as a GPS rangefinder.

 

however, is there an app that lets you plot out the yardages on your chosen course through Google Maps on your computer while you're sitting at home? without having to go out on the course to map it? so, the iphone acts more as a homemade, personalized yardage book, instead of a GPS distance finder unit? thus, saving battery and time out on the course waiting for yardages to call up?

Is there a programme which enables you to plot yourself around a course marking yardages? Ie stand on the tee...mark the point then walk to the front of the green and get a yardage?

I am trying to see if ScoreCard app work and apparently you must use oobgolf to get the course download??? not sure how it works...

I use TeeDroid in my iPhone 3G with the Mophie Air battery extender jacket... Works great, I leave the iPhone on the entire round. BTW, TeeDroid does allow you get distant from one point to another.

I use GreenFinder on mine. Works like a charm. Can't complain for something free.

I use GolfCard and it keeps getting better and better. I think it's only around $8 now so it's quite a deal. All of the courses come from the OOB database, so most of them are there, but they may not be mapped yet. If that's the case for a course you play, you download and install AppSafe from their site and use the course mapper to add the tee, green (F, C, B) and any hazards you wish. Once you've done this, you upload it, and any users can use those markings. What's cool is that you can touch any area on the screen and get the distance to that point, so you really only need the tee and the center of each green marked so that you can use those maps. Look at the screencaps and you'll see what I mean. I've had this app for about a month and they've already had several updates that make the app much more useful (side bets, a mark feature for measuring shot distance, etc.) You can also upload your scores and stats directly to OOB for some cool stat-tracking and handicap-tracking. I also downloaded and used ViewTi, which was $30, but GolfCard is much better once you map your courses.

I am pretty happy with GolfCard and the AppSafe mapping program. I wish I can get my money back for ViewTI. Still the courses I have requested are not up...
