300's vs. 962's

which one is more forgiving?

I've hit both...and like both....but don't have the opportunity to hit them side-by-side w/the same shaft at this point.

Looking to have the 962's re-grooved....still up in the air.

Playing 300's and like them - but also dig my old 962's. At this point, I'd probably lean towards the more forgiving head.

Both are cavity back irons from the same manufacture era and design. Not that a lot has changed with regards to stamping carbon steel.....

 

I think it's personal choice really. If all else fails, go with the 'looks'. :D or that nebulious concept of "feel". :D

 

I do know that I find the 300s to be pretty forgiving for its style of iron design. I find very little difference when hitting them side by side against the equialent TM 320 which were the cast version of that same design from the 2000 time frame.

I play the 300's and really like them. However I would love them even more if they had a sole grind similar to the 962's.

 

As far as forgiveness goes I don't really know, but the 300's sure do feel sweet.

Exactly...there's the playability factor (if they work for you) of the sole grinds to consider as well.

 

No forged vs. cast debate yet - that's good - but there shouldn't be when it's simply a question of forgiveness.

 

Does anyone put stock into the Maltby Playability Factor #'s? 300's show higher "playability" than the 962's....but take that for what it's worth.

 

Could save me some $'s......but as a lot of us on here - curiosity will probably get the better of me and I'll be shafting up some re-grooved 962's for the side-by-side.

Just as a heads up....K & J quoted me $10 per head for a re-groove and "face work" (assume blasting) on the 962's.

 

Almost too good to pass up.

Do anything you can to keep the 962s in the bag. You'll regret it if you don't. I still do.

Curiosity may get the best of you when it comes to $$$$, but once you get your "side by side" try out, you'll be satisfied once and for all.

 

3 years ago this BB pointed me back to the TM 300s after years of playing the 320s, a cast equivalent that I felt was better suited to my game at the time of purchase 7 years. As my game improved, I sought out something different and this BB reminded me of the 300s. Thank goodness.

 

Long story short, there your golf clubs and you play 'em. They could be made of wax but if you like them and play well, that's all that matters.
