Firm vs. Soft Grips

Which is best to encourage a relaxed grip?

My hands sweat a lot. I've been using Winn G8 in all black for several years, but found that Winn discontinued this grip. That's okay as I'm sure there is a suitable replacement.

I have the tendancy to grip a club to firm and restrict my hands/wrists/ release, etc.

I still use the old Excell on my LW because I like the tacky soft feeling when using that club for 'feel' shots.

So, my question is, which grip, firm or soft, promotes a more relaxed grip pressure yet remains tacky and gives me confidence that it will not slip? Tour Velvet? Winn PCI or Xi7 I'm curious about the new GP Tour Velvet BCT cord, but it is a firm grip and it only comes in Red or Blue. I just have not taken to colored grips.

BTW, I used to use the old Winn Harmony wrap in black and mahagony. It was a firm tour wrap grip that was firm. It had a nice taper, but wasn't too good when my hands got really sweaty. Also, I tended to grip too firm so my thinking is that I do better with the G8 type of grip.

I use the lamkin torision control and they are pretty firm but very tacky so you don't have the grip it hard.....even when these get wet they stick to your hands.

It might work different for different people with different swing speeds, but for me, my hands get tired quickly with soft grips and never get tired with the hardest most grippy grips I can find. I like Tour Wrap Cords. Sweaty hands or not. I play nine different gloves during a round during hot weather-take off to putt and pull out another one after a couple of holes-so my hands get sweaty too.

I just started playing the GolfPride BCT Cord - and LOVE them - my hands sweat a lot as well - and I traditionally have liked softer grips - but I have really taken to these BCT grips - great tack - a quick wipe of the towel mid round and they are good to go - I find that I do not try to "death grip them" - as for the colors - I went with the Blue - they are a pretty dark blue and look pretty good on the clubs from my opinion - they are a little costly at $6.99 each - that is the best price I have found locally here in Atlanta area - PGA Superstore - I can not speak to their durability as I only have about 5 rounds on the set I installed

Have you tried wrist bands?

 

Sometimes a lot of "hand sweat" is actually wrist/arm sweat being coaxed along by good ole' Mr. Gravity.

 

Also - I've heard good things about the grip master leather grips....almost becoming more tacky when there's a little moister present.
