Finally!!! Project X Graphite shaft is coming to town.

Recommended Posts

Joe,

I picked up an r7 Superquad TP from another WRX'er in early May... the selling point, it had a prototype x-7a3 shaft in it. All I needed to do was google this shaft and once I saw it was in 20+ nationwide players bags, plus JB holmes bag at one point, I knew I needed it.

I got it for $190 including the clubhead! My swing speed is right around 115 w/ driver, and I was spinning my 907D1 way too much (and hitting it around 17 degrees), ball would fall out of the sky around 285 pretty much every swing.

Needless to say this shaft has completely changed the way I drive the ball. I am now hitting it just as deep as I did in college with my R510 TP w/ a SST pured V2 X-stiff shaft. First drive I hit w/ it at Hazeltine went 315 and it was a bit heely. Needless to say this shaft is exactly what I was looking for, and I still cannot believe the deal I got on it.

My iron shafts are proj x 6.5's spined, and this shaft plays with a strikingly similar feel, launch and ball flight. I would highly reccommend this shaft to anyone who thinks they may like the whiteboard, or blueboard, or wants to hit the ball way deeper. It is also sooooooo good when it's blustery out. Overall, it is the best shaft I have hit in a wood ever, and I mean that. Obviously it fits me right, but it is near perfect.

Hope this review helps!

Hey Joe,

Any idea on how the HC1 would compare to a 904HB? I really want to try one of these out.

904HB is more comparable to the A and/or B series IMO.

So would the HC1 launch a bit higher then? Do you have these already?

William, I don't know what the 904HB launch characteristics are, but I've got the HC1 in my Fourteen Proto hybrid (2 iron) and I wouldn't count on a high launch. I'm a high launch kind of guy and often struggle to keep woods and hybrids down, and the HC1 stays as down as I want it. I certainly wouldn't call it a high launch kind of shaft.

Just personal experience, man.

Cheers,

KGK

Thanks KGK. I normally don't have launch issues either. I'm actually hitting the 904HB well now. It is supposed to be a high kick, low launch shaft.

Joe,

Have you heard any possibility of a 10 series wood shaft with an X-stiff tip? I love the shafts in my driver and hybrid, but didn't like the stiff tip of the 6A4 or 7A3 compared to the X-stiff tip of the 8A4. I'd really prefer the same tip in a 100g shaft for my FW.

Hey stage I found a 100 gram

Did any of you guys tip the 8A4 at all, and how do you feel it plays? What's the CPM without tipping at 44.5? Seems like a pretty beastly shaft, I have one on the way and am not sure if I should tip it at all. SS in the low 120s, spinning my TBTP with stock Whiteboard 65 S anywhere from 4500-6000+ RPMs (I know that this shaft is not even really comparable to the 8A4, but hopefully it can give some idea of what I'm working with).
Anyone compare the difference between 8A4 and 7A3?? Only 7 grams difference. Just bought a 7A3 to put into a 9016D, can't wait. Going to compare it to Ozik F7M2 LTD.
To me, 7A3 and F7M2 LTD were very similar. The Ozik launches a bit higher and spins just a bit more, but they are about the same in terms of tip stifness. Both went a little left when you really step on one.

The 8A4 takes it to another level. The X-Stiff tip took the left out of the equation and really flattened ballflight at the apex. It's a ridiculous shaft. Compared to the Whiteboard 83-X, it's a little lower spin and a hotter flight, though not as smooth feeling as the Mitsubishi.

stage1350 thanks for the comparison.... I was able to hit the F7M2 today in my r9 460... compared to my Fubuki the launch was similar but less spin... so I am eager for the PX 7A3... Into a good head wind today I was able to carry the ball another 10-15 yards with the F7M2 compared to the Fubuki...

I'll post the details on the 7A3 once I have a chance to hit...

You could clearly see the Project X graphics on Ernie Els' 3-wood shaft after he tee'd off at the PGA Championship today.

So I have finally had some time to test...

I tipped the 7A3 1/2" and must say its a stout shaft! In comparison to the Fubuki 73X or the F7M2 x-flex, it is much stiffer of a shaft.

Feel - the 7A3 feels unreal! One of the, if not the best shaft I have played to date.
Launch/Spin - launches a bit lower than the F7M2 but with alot less spin. Not even comparable to the Fubuki as far as launch and spin.

I have yet to get on trackman and hit this combo (I am playing the r9 460 9.5* - PX 7A3)... and will try to post some numbers once I do.
