What ball do Kim and Tiger really play?

Anyone know (not guess, but actually know) what ball Tiger and Anthony Kim really play? I noticed in Kim's what's in the bag last year he was playing the one dot platinum (which is different than the retail which has no dot). If you look on the conforming ball list, there are a slew of one tour balls, with dots, stars, TW, etc.

Do any Nike staffers actually play the retail Nike One balls?

I've often wondered that myself... announcers are always talking about Tiger playing a ball that spins more than most.

TW plays Nike One Tour

 

you can see the swoosh on the ball on most of his putts

 

and yes this ball has a lot of spin and control like the Prov1 and Prov1x

 

ps. the "dots" are from sharpies so they know it is their ball because yes a lot of people play the same ball for example the Pro V1 #1 most people play it but if you are in the same grouping and everyone has a ProV1 #1 how will you be able to tell? you wont so they put sharpie dots on the ball to know whos is whos

We are not talking about marking the ball or debating whether or not tiger plays a Nike ball. We are talking about the type of ball-not brand. And as far as the dot or star-these a put on the ball during the manufacturing process to denote the subtle difference from the retail version.

I would assume most Nike staffer's balls are slightly different than the retail offers. Every player has a preference, and if Nike was willing to tailor a golf ball to the exact feel you wanted, wouldn't you take them up on it?

 

They're not necessarily 'better' than the retail ball, just slightly customized.

I have posted a picture before, but tigers ball says Nike one Tour TW, I have one from a earlier this year. Its not visibly different obviously, but not sure any of us can buy the One Tour TW

its common knowledge that he was playing the 08' version of the platinum ball. rock ishii even said so in an interview. more than likely he still is as it was made for him. what is a one tour with a slightly softer cover and more spin? 08' platinum.

Nike tried that with the second generation ONE ball and if I remember correctly it didn't do all to well...

I once found a weird nike ball once. I was playing at Grayhawk out in Arizona and found a ball while looking for mine. All it had on it was a Nike swoosh not other markings or anything. I played it on the next hole and I hit an 8 iron that backed up about 15 feet, I never back a ball up like that. I lost it in a pond a while later. I always figured it was some custom ball for a pro or a prototype or something, it sure would spin.

I figured with all the stars, dots, dashes, etc. on the Nike One Tour series on the USGA conforming ball list, that they must be played by someone--figures most of their tour guys would opt for something precisely tailored. Does anyone know where the retail One Tour fits into the mix of stars, dots, dashes? I assume the differences are mostly cover hardness and spin. Is the retail the lowest spinning version (which would be my guess) or does it fit in the middle of all the stars, dots, dashes spin wise?

It did come out a few years back (Nike TW ball) . I believe people's complaints were that they got zero distance from it. Obviously couldn't compress the core enough. If you could compress the core enough it had high ball flight, was long off the tee and had tons of spin on the greens. I think the Platinum is pretty much the same with lower flight for me.

As per mjtoal, I've been told that on the Euro Tour the balls are slightly different from retail. They certainly don't come out of retail packaging anyway.

I have one of those older TW balls in my hand. It's a Tour Accuracy TW. The dimples have little dots in the center of the dimple. I remember getting a good deal on them as the retailers were trying to move them. They were decent balls.

Kind of off topic, but I recall reading an article saying there were something like 15+ versions of the Nike ball. I think it was from a tour van thing that Golfwr did.

This weekend at the AT&T, Tiger gave my friend one of his balls because he was the standard bearer for Tiger's group. My buddy is going to show it to me tonight. I can post pics of it if you all are interested..

In a recent issue of Golf Magazine or Golf Digest, there was a two page NIKE ball fitting segment. Rock Ishi was quoted to say the Stewart Cink is playing the Tour D ball with a softer cover than the retail version because he needs the distance but wanted a softer feel. He might have changed since that article.
