Scotty Cameron eat your heart out

Could someone please give me the background on the whole "Eat your heart out Scotty" talk? I'm not that familiar with the mini (outside of that it was some sort of small putter that Bettimardi milled for Scotty and that he might still have a couple of them :) ) so is this similar to that and is that what you are comparing this too? If so, does anyone have some pics of the mini that they could post with this?

 

From a function standpoint, does the 'narrowness' (if that is the right word - length from heel to toe) decrease the 'forgiveness' and/or shrink the sweet spot? The only thing that had a similar head length was the squareback and it just didn't look right with a small head sitting next to the ball.....JMO. Also, are these made to game or purely a wall-hanger? I realize that it is very limited so probably won't be gamed but could it?...if that makes sense. Nice looking finish...certainly a beautiful piece.

 

The title was not a stab at Cameron. I just posted it to get more looks.

 

The 3/4's felt very forgiving at the Studio. I really want to game one if I can't get a second one. I hope there will be some at the PGA Show. There is one on eBay for $2550 with 6 days left, so most people don't game them. I know 2 guys that got them at the Social are gaming there's.

Just curious as to how they putt....it is very interesting but goes against the theory of heel/toe (anser) putters where moving the weight to the ends of the club help 'enlarge' the sweet spot. And like I said, the only experience that I've had looking down at a putter with a 'short' head just made me feel like something wasn't right. I'm sure if I had one, it wouldn't be gamed....I have trouble scratching up or dirtying an OTR.

 

Also, could someone expand on the 'entire face' sweet spot remark. I'm not a putter maker so I'm probably wrong but I always thought that moving the weight farther away from center helped increase the size of the sweet spot so wouldn't shrinking it down decrease it? Just curious. Thanks.

That does the same thing. Weight deeper increases MOI which make it forgiving. They both achieve the same results but in different ways.

I guess I want Mr. Bettinardi's work to call attention to itself by the sheer quality and class, just like Mr. Bettinardi himself. I kind of surprised by how calm this thread has gone. Again very very nice pick up. I decided to give my anser style 360TR a run yesterday and took 37 putts....back to heel shafts for me.

Sadly she won't see any time on the green. I would love to game her, but I would need to have her cut down 3.5" (36" now) and bent 3° flat. I just can't justify doing that when I know she won't quite fit my stroke right since she is so perfectly face balanced and I need some toe hang.

 

Easy solution: Pull the shaft and keep it for later re-installation. Put a "gamer" shaft and grip in the putter and play it with a different head cover. If you take care of it you will always be able to put the original shaft back in it to put it back to like new condition. If you do get some scratches on it the Studio can refinish if for you and it will look just like new. The Bettinardi refinishes are totally authentic and like new unlike another restoration/custom shop work.

 

If you play the putter you will have a much better appreciation for it and you will get a ton more enjoyment from it than you would by looking at it on the wall. Kind of like going on a date with, to use an earlier reference, Eva Longoria and she is all over you and you tell her that you are only going to look at her so she needs to keep her hands to herself.

 

A guy on another site that has a few of these plays two of them and mentioned the shaft change in a post of his. I thought it was a good idea.

You might want to check your putter. Most of the 3/4's with the plumbers neck have about 1/4 toe hang or just a little less (about 3:45 to 4:00 on the clock - big hand).

 

It does have a 1/4 toe hang, but that is a bit too close to face balance for my tastes. I putted with it at the Studio for a few balls, and even gripping way down on it I pushed putts just a bit on longer putts.
